LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. Notice ro Apvantisens.—To secure the most conspicuous positions for advertisements in Tax Srar they must te sent to our Office as early in the day es possible. Those who delay to observe this caution should not complain if they do not find them where they prefer tosee them. It is always safest to get them to our counter between Sand 10 in the morning, if wishing them insert- ed satisfactorily on the same day. Trat Bottte.—The Union of this morning contains the following : “Fau.t Fixpers are always found. There is #ven a disposition to indulge in unjustcriticisms and incorrect statements at the ex of the Procession of the Keystone Club on londay eve- ning, which is admitted by all unprejudiced Spectators to have been an orderly, well-arranged and imposia; ey, in honor of the regularly nominated democtatie and anti know netbing candidate for the mayoralty. Of course this dis- play was net leasing to those who wish this nomination defeated, and, not daring to oppose it openly, ¢ have resorted to insinuations and accusations which cannot be substantiated, and which show to what extremity they are driven. “We are assured by a member of the Anxi y Guard that the procession on Monday evening had reached Sixth street at the time a bottle was thrown at a window of the building at the cor- ner of Eleventh street and the avenue. Of conrse the visitation upon one of our seine cotempo- raties did not proceed from any one in the pro- cession, but from some evil-minded individual who would have been better employed had he joined in the demonstration of the evening .”? This unkind criticism ef the Union to the con- trary notwitastanding, we shall continue to be ** fault finders’ where rowdyism is concerned, without caring the snap of our finger under the wing of which political organization it may seek for the time — immunity for its misdeeds. Our eotemporary is heartily welcome to its en- thusiastic opinion of the procession of Monday night last, while we claim for ourself the same right to bave our own opinion of the cotemporary gathering of States Hosemen, Regulators, Em- ire Club “boys,”’ &e., &c., at the corner of our-and-a-balf street and Pennsylvania avenne, attracted by the shouting, bonfire and swivel- fring, which compelled the precipitate closing of places of business in the neighborhood 3 of the house-gutling, decanter-smashing and bloody- fighting that transpired in the First Ward while, or shortly after, it was making the welkin ring in that quarter of the city; of the breaking of ear own windows ; and of the disastrous incen- diary fire in the Seventh Ward which crowned the orgies of that night But according to the extract we publish above the procession bad actually down to Sixth street—four hundred yards below us—ere the window of the Star office was smashed. We were. however, assured yesterday afternoon, on the strength of a statement made by a member of the Anxiliary Guard, said to be named Ward, that ‘‘the procession had arrived at Ninth street when the window was smashed.” Thus, wheth- er it had proceeded two or four hundred yards past our premises, persons of common sense wii! comprehend at a clance that the act of rowdyieiw was a simple consequence of the -‘demonstia- tor" Bot the fact that a member of the Auxiliary Guard steps forward to explain the cireumstances of the throwing of the bottle is suggestive of se- vious reflection upon the state of eur munic ipal police, which can explain such an act, bat made ne arrest of its perpetrator. That fact speaks so plainly to the judgment of all having the well being of society here at heart, as to relieve us en- tirely fiom necessity for ¢ wamenting uponit. CrrinaL Cover. — After our report closed yesterday, and after the discharge for the day of the petit jurors, the Court ordered Alexander Ra gleston to be placed at the bar. For the assanit on Officer Fanning, for which the jury bad fonnd him guilty, be was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment in the county jall; and for shoot- jeg at Wm. Crampton on last election day, on which he had also been found guilty, be was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment in the county jail The jury in the Exsex case, being unable to agree upen a verdict, were yesterday bronght into Court and discharged. It was said they stood ten for acquittal, two for manslaughter. To-day, the Court met at the usual hour, and took up the case of Benjamin Ogle, for the mur- der of Johnny Webb, in Georgetown, in January last. The District Attorney informed the Court that W.A. Maury, Exq., had been retained in the case, to assist him, for the United States. Messrs Ratcliffe snd Norris appeared for the defence. The clerk then proceeded to cat! the jury. The pa.-! of this term was exbansted, and but the foilowing jurors were selected, viz: Joshua Hilton, Washington Walingsford, Theodore Meade, George D- Spencer, and George 8. Noyes The Court then gave an order for the sammon- ing of thirty talesmen from whom to make up the Panel in this case. Citizens’ MERTING —A meeting of the citi- zens of the Third Ward was held at Temperance Hall, last night, for the purpose of nominating an independent ticket for the Ward at the com- ing annual election. Natiovat. Musican Coxvextiox —The ses- sion of yesterday afternoon was attended bya large number of persons who participated in the exercises of the occasion, and also by a nume- rous body of spectators, who occupied the seats surrounding the singers, and were interested lis- eners during the session. Messrs. Bradbury and Root attended in drilling the members of the Convention iu masical taste and in vocalization, and thus the two hours were passed away promt- ably and pleasantly. The evening session also passed off agreeabl with the single exception ol the annoyance ¢ ted by 4 wumber of bad boys, who had no bur ness ia the room, and who made themselves great poleances A ¢ officer should be stationed io this reom, to bring such children to a sense of Propriety sf their parents cannot, or perhaps the ‘st way to get over the difficulty would be to exclude them from the room altogether.
