. LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. - A Rick Comxgsronpryce.— The following letter was received some time since in this city; penned, evidently in dead earnest, by some north- ern antograph-bunter, who appears to have been taking a Rip-Van-Winkleixh snooze for the last uarter of a centur . _ Guyeva, Feb. —, 1858. This letter fell into the bands of one of our city jokers, and elicited the following creamy reply: Wasutnetox, D. C., March 1, 1858 Mr Dear Six: Your brilliant espistle of Feb- ruery —, 1858, addressed to ‘“‘Hon. John Ran- dolph, U S.S., Washington, D.C” requesting bis autograph, is by a train of circumstances un- forseen by you. upon my table. I doubt not, he would have complied with your modest request. You are not, however, altogether unfortunate tbat your communication has fallen into my bands, for, applauding pal zeal in so patriotic an undertaking, I will most happy to assist you, by forwarding the signatures of some of m: remarkabie acquaintances. Shakspeare, _— , Of Stratford on-Avon, England, bas some little renown in the world of letters, who, I have no doubt, will cheerfully oblige you, when I meet him next. Mr. J. C#sar, whilom of Rome, Italy, was wont also to be kind in this regard; and the auto- graph of my particular friend, J. lscariot, Exq , a distinguished Hebrew gentleman, would suit your collection exactly. He would, doubtless, dispose of it for a small consideration, as his character ix notoriously pecuniary. Should I meet any of these gentlemen shortly, i shall, assuredly, oblige you, and bad not the immortal Adam (who in bis palmy days a sessed a country seat called ‘-Paradise’’) expired 2 “few days” since, | would have enriched your collection by bis valuable ‘Mark *’ At any rate, you bape the scgrerh of Yours, with profound respect, ; Joun Ranpotrr. JR Brapy’s GaLLEry —We advise all the Star's readers, who at times walk Pennsylvania avenue, to step in at Brady's Daguerreotype Gallery, in Browns’ Hotel block, if they would view an art establishment equal to anything of the kind in the country, in all its appointments. Its propri- etor had asimilar house here eighteen or twenty years ago. and was careful to preserve fine pic- tures of all the public men of the times who fig- ured in connection with our national affairs. The consequence is—for he has sedulously pursued the same _* ever since—he bas, perhaps, the largest collection of striking portraits of persons known in our public historv in the last twenty- five years, in ‘exletence. In New York his Gal- jery ranks the first among hundreds; and.indeed, his pictures were regarded as the best exhibited at the great exhibition of all nations that came otf in Paris a year ortwoago. As works of me- chanical genins and artistic finish, no finer Da- guerreotyping was ever seen than the pictures of Brady, in all the various styles in which bis op- eratives take them and his artistes finish them. His present establishment bere has been fitted up at greater cost than any other we have seen this side of New York, and embraces all the va- rious improvements necessary in producing the Grst class Daguerreotypes, Photographs, &c., of the times. Aragest.—This morning a rough looking indi- vidual was arrested on suspicion of being con- ected with the burning of the stable in the rear of Kirby's restaurant. H> was taken before Jus- tiee Donn, when it was stated that last night he was heard to make certain threats, and predict that there would be trouble in that neighbor- hood. Fortunately for him, he lodved in the uard house last night, and though he may have faa confederates who were concerned in the in- cendiary act there was no evidence fo show his connection with it. He was dismissed without bis having entered his name on the docket. Finzs.—Last night, about ten o'clock, some one set tire toa bay-stock in the public square uear the Capitol, which cansed an alarm and un- necessary troable to the fire department.
