Grorertown, Dec. 2, 1857. The services on te-morrow (Christmas) morn- ing, at Trinity church. will be of the most solemn and imposing character. Fine musical talent has been engaged for the occasion. A solemn high mass will be offered at 5 o'clock, and sermon bi Rev. Mr. Halliran, and at 104 there willagain be high mass, and a sermon by the Very Rev. Chas. Stonestreet, Provincial of the Jesuits. On both occasions a collection will be lifted for the benetit of the poor. The altar will present a grand ap- pearance. as the magnificent candlesticks tately received from Enrope and presented to the ehure: by W. W. Corcoran, Esq., will be used for the first time. We are pleased to learn that the cornice cut for the new custom-house and post office building has been accepted, and the work is again rapidly progressing. After taking the fatal dose, he repaired to his home where he secreted him. self in the hay loft until alate hour. After the family ascertained the facts in the case. physi- clans were sent for, who made eve y effort toex- tract the poison from his system, and save bis all without eff gered in great pain until this morning pen death put an end to his sufferings. The only reason that can be assigned for the rash act upon the part of the boy, is that his master had scolded him for some misconduct. If we méstake not, there isa law of the District which imposes a penalty for sell- ing deadly poisons to slaves, and minor, and if there 1s not, we hope that Congress will Bive us a stringent one at its present session Mr. John E.
