It isto be occupied jointly by Friendship Lodge, Ridge- ley Eneam it, and a Masonic Lodge. ‘After the transaction of some preliminary bus!- ness, P G. M. Charles Calvert (who been selected as the orator for the occasion) delivered an address, in which be gave an interesting his- tory of the incidents which preceded and fol- lowed the introduction of Hyena © Lodge into the order, and then entered = he ques- tion whether their lodge had fulfilled her mis- sion ss enunciated in the mandates of Odd Fel- lowship—to visit the sick, relieve the distressed, bury the dead, and educate the orphan. Lest he should be considered beastful, the official records of the lodge were referred to, and which show conclusively that, during the existence of the lodge, there bas been expended for sick benefits to its members a sum exceeding $5,000; for do- nstions and relief to members of the order irre- tive of lodges over $300; donations for char- i par , Such as distressed lodges in Pittsburg and Portsmouth, and to the sufferers by the yellow fever at the latter place, nearly 3100; and for funeral expenses to their own mein- bers and moury given to their widows over $600. Yesterday afternoon a number of young men, among them Edward C. McAleese and F. McDe- vitt, (both of Baltimore,) entered the restaurant of C. Springman, on the Avenue between Second and Third street charged the bar- keeper, Jos. Platt, with having given him Croton oil the day before, and, thereupon, picked up a soup bowl and threw at Platt. A row ensued and Springman summoned officers Suit and McHenry. Suit seized McAleese, who resisted, and a souiile ensued, the friends of McAleese try- ing to prevent his arrest. McDevitt drew a horse pistol, and Officer McHenry seized it, and he in turn was seized by others of the party. A des- = struggle for the sion of the pistol ook place, and was continued uatil McHenry presented his own pistol and threatened to shoot the Mrst man who interfered. MeDevitt escaped for the time, but the officers wecured McAleese, who was taken before Justice Goddard and com- mitted to jail for trial at Court. Warrants were then issued by Justice Donn for the arrest of James Roach and F. McDevitt, and they were taken last night by the Guards and Special Police. This morning they were each required to give bail in $300 for appearance at court, and McDevitt fined $20and costs for carry- ing 2 dangerous weapon. After night, two shots were fired into Spring- man’s bar-teom through the window, but t persons who did it are not known. The officers in this arrest of McAleese had their courage and firmness pas to the severest test. The prisoner is a powerful man, and of the most des- rate purpose. At the time of his arrest and on is way to the magistrates office he made such desperate struggles to escape that he divested himself of nearly ever —— of his clothing, but the officers retained their held apon him des- pite bis efforts and the interference of his friends.
