It is pregnant with meaning ; telling not only of the eminent qualifications of Mr. Orr for the Speakership, but of his command- ing influence among his fellow members, the result of their experience and that of the coun- try at large with him asa legislative states- man. He is yet a very young man—so young, as that his nomination by acclamation by the Democracy of the House to the second office known to our system of Government, embraces evidence of the fact that he has a brilliant future before him, depending, so far as its finale is concerned, on himself. It also em- braces conclusive proof that there is to be heart- felt harmony between the National Adminia- tration and the Democratic party in Congress. Mr. Orr is well known to all his fellow mem- bers to be as closely identified with the Na- tional Administration, as it is possible for a representative in Congress. to be—to sympa- thize with it in all its positions on test—party —questions and to be entirely in its confidence. Mr. Allen of Illinois, the nominee for the second office in the gift of the House—the Clerkship—won his victory over his gallant the New Hampshire Patriot and Dayton (Ohio) Empire in the good cause of the acceptance of the Constitution of Kansas by Congress, so as to mean advice that it be rejected, lest others may draw similar conclusions we hasten to cor- rect the phraseology of the sentenee so that our meaning will be obvious to “all. We said’ on that oceasion : , * Doixc Goon Service —No other two Demo- cratic newspapers are just now doing better ser- vice in the good cause of the immediate settle- ment of the Kansas imbroglio, by remitting it back to the people of the Territory, clothed with all the undoubted powers of citizens of a State of the North American Confederacy, than the New Hampshire Patriot and the Dayton (Ohio) Empire.”’ Our meaning was to compliment them for their efficiency in advocating the prompt ac- ceptance of the Constitution, and admission of Kansas as a State upon it, by which acts the people of the Territory will be instantly invest- ed with all the functions of citizens of a State, which will give them the same power at once to al er and amend any portion of their funda- men‘al law at will, as is enjoyed by the people of every State of the Union. The argument of the opponents of the acceptance of the instramept is that that act will force the people of the Territory to live under a constitution repug- nant to a majority of them; and in speaking of Printer question as it will come before them. It appeags to be understood that Mr. Clemens, of Va., will take that occasion to explain the virtual charges against the last House Printer he is alleged to have referred to without going into particulars, in the caucus of Saturday eve- ning last: Tus Navat Courts or Isquiny.—Court No. 1 organized to-day in the case of Lt. Wm. D. Porter, furloughed. No witnesses being in attendance, the Court adjourned. Before Court No. 2, the case of Lieut. Steele was continued. Documentary evidence was submitted, and Lt. Bushrod W. Hunter was examined for defence. Before Court No. 3, documentary evidence was yet being submitted in the case of ex-Cap*. Levy. Note.—Ex-Commander Zachariah Johnson requests us to say that eur report of the pro- ceedings of Court No. 2, some days since, was erroneous wherein it represented that he could not be found when the court were ready to take up his his case; as he could have been found on application for him at the Kirkwood House, where he boards, when in Washington. ritory as a State into the Confederacy, will be, in effect, abandoning their own platform and imounting that of the Repubtioan party. The Intelligencer publishes the Constitution of Kansas, and contends that it perpetuates slavery even if the slavery clause be rejected. The editor, in this case, must have read it through a very queer pair of spectacles, indeed, if the instrument has really made any such impression on bis mind. He also writes of the provisions of the ordinanee attached to the Conatitution, as though regarding its acceptance obligatory on the part of Congress if the State be admitted on the Constitution. It is, on the contrary, the nature of a contract between the General Government and Kansas, which the former may reject at will, in any form known to the proceedings of Congress. the Old Dominion Guards; and the company prr- | nounces her lecture on LEN sented him one of their breastpins—a chased piece ei AU TIE 2 ng EE of gold abont thvee-fourths of an inch long and | with her delineation of Miss .
