Mayor Crawford made quite an onslaught vpon the night watch yesterday. Three of them, viz: H. Hotchings, I. King, and B. Howard, were dismissed from service; and if al! the rumors afioat be true, we incline to the opinion that there are others who are deserving of the same fate. All this but tends to confirm us jin our opinion that our whole police system needs a thorough remodelling. From present indications Thursday will be very generally observed by our citizens as a day of thanksgiv’ ne From a notice in ather columa it will be seen that none of our butchers will at- tend market to-morrow morning. The banks will be closed. All our churches will be open for divine service ; and we hope, for the sake of ood erder and the cause of cea f that the jeepers of taverns and restaurants wi fh see the ropriety of closing their places of business. But few, if any other, places of business will be open, and we cannot see any reason why this cima of our citizens should form an exception to the general rule.
