ie ee LOCAL INTELLIGENG Tue Ricnmosp Cvetom-Hovse Romray — The Richmond Whig says: ‘This case engag- ed the further attention of the Husting Court yes- terday.. Among the by was watchman James W. Ri i con versation which took place between Boss and the prisoner. His version was about as follows: Witwess. Beary Myers, Officer Allen, and Deputy Marshal Phillips, walked down Broad street on the day Pulling was examined before the Mayor, for the purpose of looking at the place where the treasure was found. O Boss started with them from the Court-house, but stopped at the Powhatan bar-room, across thestreet. Aftersat- isfying their curios:ty, witness and his compan- ions retarned, Broad street, and on arriving at the Powhatan corner, halted, when some one observed ‘yonder comes Somerville.” Witness turned and saw prisoner walking up the north side of Broad street, about one hundred yards distant, in custedy of officer Morriss. W {tness and Phillips crossed over to the Court-house corner, and walked to the gate of the enclo- sure, on the cross street, where he joined offi- cer Morriss and the prisoner, who had crossed diagonally from the Powhatan House. After ascending the Court-house steps, witness turn- ed and saw Boss advancing toward Somerville. Officer Johnson then came out from the Mayor’s oftice, and told Morriss not to take prisoner in then. ‘They accordingly stopped on the platform of the outside steps, and Boss shook handa with Som- erville. Boss first said ‘good morning.’ and then remarked ‘we have good luck; we have found $17,000 of the money.’ Somerville re- plied ‘| am very glad of it; you cam now fix on the right party, and I will geteclear.’” Witness did not remember what was next remarked. Is confident that Boss and prisoner shook hands on the platform of the Court House steps; most of the conversation between them took place on the sill ef the door. Boss told Somerville that he had understood that he (S_) was to have been made policeman in New Orleans, and that his wife was then siek in Charleston. Somerville then asked ‘ where did you your information.’ Boss replied (hat Pullitng had told him. Som- erville told Boss that this was his first robbe: a and that be had been persuaded into it by Pail ing. Witness did not hear Boss inform prisoner or say to him ‘this. is your first robbery, etc.’ Somerville acknowledyed to Boss that he was to have been a policeman, aud uested bim to walk to the jail with him, as he something to say to him. “* The case was then submitted to the Court, without argument by the counsel, and the Jus- tices unanimously decided to remand the priso- ner for trial before the Circuit Court, in April next.’? Tre Rivex.—About the Long Bridge the duck hunters are waiting for cold weather, in order to have a chance at the river fowl; they say that all kinds of river fowl are srarcer this Fail than any previous season. The cause is ascribed to the constantly increasing nuuwbers of coasting and other vessels in the river, which tends to fright- en the birds away. Old duckers state that there is a falling off every year in the numbers in the upper river during the shooting season. The Washington channel on yesterday was filled with long boats from daylight until dark— all heavily laden and bound to the city canal. People dowu the river, who have wood to get to market. are using every opening to convert their wood ie into gold; and everything inthe shape of a sloop, schooner, or long boat, is press- ed into the service.
