A Barra, Hussaxp —Lastnigh*, 1 man naincd Stephen Kearney went to the house of his father- in-law, named Samuel Pallent, to call upon his wife with whom be bas not lived for upward of a year, on account of some difficulty between them. To lay hold and assixt he knows would be dangerous, as the application of additional force might carry away the rigging that suspends the sail at balf and leave the wearer almost under bare poles, consequently he is com- peled to remain inactive, notwithstanding sucha course las every appearance of impoliteness, un- til the expanders of the wind sail is sufficiently compressed into an oblong to admit of its passage through the narrow doorway—and when an en- trance is effected it is somewhat laughable to witness the movements of gentlemen on the in- side who are troubled with anything like tender- ness about the boot tops, lest the ponderous ar- ticle in its sudden expansion should come in contact with such parts, and if not produce a brui flict at least very painful emotions. A cireumstance of this kind occurred a few days since, which elevated the risibilities of the jumates of the omnibus a little above the mark of money: A lady very fully circumnavigated by the aforesaid crinoline appendages, forced her way into one of the Union line coaches, the pesky articles in their efforts to regain their nsual form were brought in front in contact with the knees of a passenger, which caused the after-leash to make an upward motion, which came very near bringing it in contact with the nose of a yallant Doctor sitting on the seat inthe rear. The Doc- tor by dint of sharp dodging, however, saved his proboscis from damage, and the lady took her seat in perfect composure. But the ir Doctor looked as much non-plussed as an awkward and bashful yours man trying to make his first and | pape bow to his lady love. He blushed from is goatee to the margin of his hair, and the rapid manner in which the color appeared and disap- peared in his face led his fellow passengers to suppose that he was really suffering for want of air For the purpose of preventing all such difficul- ties in the future, we would suggest to the gen- tlemanly proprietor of the Union line to manifest his gallautry by remodeling all his busses, by converting the entire stern or after part into a door, so that all his lady passengers may be saved from so much labor and trouble in getting in and out; and, as an offset to the expense in- curred in making the necessary alterations, regu- late his fare acco:ding to the tity of room occupied by each passenger. ‘Puat is to say. if four pyramids of hoops, as was the case some mornings since, occupy as much room as eight gentlemen, require the hoops to pay one-baif the augregate amount of fare. he Grand Visitation at Mechanics’ Lodge, 1.
