Taz River.—Captain Fonce arrived up this morning from the lower river with a cargo of 700 bunches of trout, perch, rock, &c., for the Wash- ington markets. They were the finest lot brought to market this season. Skidmore bought them. There is not a thing doing about the wharves, and owners of horses and carts, who have been complained of by captains of vessels for not be- ing sufficiently well provided with accommoda- tions for unloading coal, now complain in their turn of the total absence of vessels to unload. He was taken to the office of Justice Smith and left in bis custody while the officer went for his witnesses. As soon as the officer left Whitehurst very coolly remarked to the Jus- tice that he didn’t intend tostay there, and picked up his hat and left. The magistrate took after him, and raised the cry of “ stop thief!” White- burst finding the Justice overhauling him, picked up a stone and struck Mr.S8. The mayistrate re- turned the compliment by a severe blow upon his opponent’s mouth, which induced the latter to reconsider bis ee of walking away. He was taken back to the office and committed to jail for a further hearing. ConskcRATION OF Buriat Grovnps.-—A cor- respondent of the Church Journal says that Bishop Whitehonse, in his recent visitation, consecrated the burial ground of Jubilee College. The Prot- estant Churchman thinks this is the first instance of sch a service in this country by one of our bishops. If we are not mistaken, the burial ground of the handsome new Episcopal church at Belts- ville, Md., was consecrated by Bishop Whitting- ham on the day of the church dedication lately. Corrorxatnon Laws.—Alfred Jones, feed sel- ler, was yesterday charged betore Justice Smith with occupying more room in the Centre Market than is allowed by law. He was ordered to pay 85.55 fine and costs. Phillip Miller was taken before Justice Donn for using pees and indecent language in the streets. He was fined $3 and costs To-xtcHT we are to have something essentially mirth-provoking and musical at Odd Fellows Hall, it being the first gppearance of an excellent company of Ethiopian Serenaders, under the management of Mr. John Wells. We need only remind our readers that John T. Ford, Esq.. has a hand in the arrangements to satisfy them that the entertainments will be rich and varied. A FiGHt took place last night on Pennsylvania avenue between Nineteenth and Twentieth sts., in which two young men were the contestants, the whole being in settlement of a difficulty be- tween rival fire associations. A ring of strictly impartial spectators maintained order until one of the combatants owned up to being whipped. No arrests were made. * AccErtep.—We are happy to be able to an- nounce that the register of Ascension Parish, C F. Hurlburt, received this morning a letter from Rev.
