The editor of the Lancaster (Pa.) Well, the reverend gentleman’s preparation is as follows : Alcoholic extract of ignorantia amara—vv grs. Powdered gum arabic —IW grs. Mgke forty pills and take one three times aday. Where the reverend imposter got the wonderful medicine from it would be hard totell. But most certainly it neither can be found in any of the medical or botanical booki, drug stores or any other place, but must come from the inventive genius of the Doctor’s head, who will send it by mail on receipt of an extra dollar, merely to pay expenses. This certainly is the most in- gebious manner that has been devised yet to gull the public, and yoes far ahead of Professor Oli- ver’s fifty ways to make a fortune, which was without exception the greatest piece of swind- ling ever practiced on the community —Ezchange Paper. It is not necessary to resort to the alco- holic extract of the article. It is sufficiently stultifying in its simple condition for all’ practi- ca] purposes.— Phil. Mr. Maho- ney missed his pocket-book immediately after he had seated himself in the but all efforts to discover subsequently the perpetrator of the theft was ineffectual. He says that as he was sing through the gate leading into the depot @ felt some one pull him by one of his shoulders, but be thought nothing of it, supposing some person in hurrying to pass by him had merely at- fempted to pull him aside. ‘There was a large crowd Ungraiae through the gate at the time, and he thinks it probable that the bold thief, whoever he was, availed himself of the hurry and jam, and put his hand in his pantaloons’ pocket and extracted his pocket-book. He felt no such move- ment. however, but in proof of its having been done found afterward that the outer button of his ket had been unbuttoned. which he remem- ts distinetly having buttoned subsequent to having purchased his railroad ticket. The mo- ney consisted of twelve #100 bills, one twenty- dollar bill, one ten-dollar bill, and one five dollar Dill. They were all upon the Irving Bank of this city. He left a house in the Swan- anoa Gap, on Saturday week last, intending to be ‘one a few hours, and has not since been seen, hor Many persons have been searching for him—several for day. He was alone, but thinly clad, without food or fire, and a violent storm came on after he had been absent a short time The cause of his loss is entirely a mystery as yet; but, of course, not the least hope of his safety is entertained. Just published and for sale at TAYLOR & MAURY’S Bookstore, near %h street, J[ATERESTING TO FAMILIES, The following extract from a New York pape cannot failto be interesting. In referring to the receipts of Teas in this country for one ‘ear up to Sith nitimo, it says they will be 12,- (9,000 pounds short of the imports of the year end- ing June 3), 1856, and that “The advance in black teas. Oolongs, since last December, has been fifteen cents per pound; Young Hyson Teas, of tow and medium grades, have experienced an advance of one hundred per cent. over last season's closing prices. ‘It will thus be seen that the strong and rapid advance in the tea market has been the result of x short sopoly and active demaud ; but when it is con- sidered that we may hear at any moment of the en- tire suspension of shipments at Shanghai, and. in fact, that, as soon asa sufficient force from England arrives at the seat of war, all five ports of entry in China, will probably be placed under strict blockade, it would not be surprising to see Teas ata much lugher figure than they have yet attained.” n view of these facts, we hold out very great in- ducements for families’ to lay in their supplies of Tea now.
