Meanwhile, the police were sent for, who took Goodrick into custody, he hav- ing sat all the while stupetied and mute. ‘2 Judge Neale, coroner, held an inquest on the body this morning, and a verdict was rendered in accordance with the above facts. ‘The examination of the Sheer took place this afternoon before juire John Summers, and re- sewers in the Fourth Ward; referred to health committee. Also, one withdrawing the nomination of E. McHenry, laid over at the last meeting of the Board, and substituting that of Francis Ward as Police Constable in the Fourth Ward; confirmed. Also, one nominating Enoch M. Norris as Wood Corder and Measurer of Coal, in the Sixth Ward, in place of Theodore Mosher, resigned; after considerable discussion the nomination was con- firmed. Also, a communication making the following nominations of Police Magistrates : First District—Samuel Drury. Second District—John D. Clark. Third District—F . J. Marek A Fourth District—John H dard. Fifth District— William Thompson. Sixth Distriet James Cull. Seventh District—Daniel Rowland. The Mayor, in his communication, claimed the tight under the charter to make these nomina- tions hitherto made in joint convention ofthe two Boards by members thereof. In the in- terim Mr. Maury made application for a yew trial of trespass case Harvy vs. Magee, which been decided at a former term; motion for a new trial overruled by the Court. Mr. Carlisle asked for a new hearing of the case of Peter Havener rs. T. and M. Brown for damages. The Court granted j a new trial on defendants’ paying costs of present term. A case of considerable importance to the com- munity was called ty Mr. Carrington, counsel for plaintiff, being that of Statham Smithson & Co., vs. William M. Mann, in which the plain- titfs claim to have ice the defendant with | some $6,000 worth of their bank notes for circula- tion inthe North, and for which no return has been made by the defendant, although the notes have been presented at their banking house and redeemed. 7 Messrs.
