We should hore. more- over that the rentiments of the President are not faithfully represented in the paragraph. The treaty is yet before the Senate, not hav- ing been disposed of.” Our respected friends of the Intelligencer appear to us needlessiy alarmed. The para- graph they quote from the Richmond Enguir- er is f.unded evidently on some of the thous- and Washington letters making “revelations’’ which amount to nothing more than the epre. ulations of the writers, in most instances in- fluenced too by their personal views and syn - pathies. Our opision has been, and continues to be, that the recommitment of the treaty by the Senate is with the view to divest it of fea tares which were disapproved by the Jate ad- ™inistraticn; end, we take it for granted, by the present one, as they are antagonistic to the settled policy of the democratic party from Mr. Monroe’s time to this hour; none.of which improvement when it shall be completed. The Diplomatic Reception.—At noon tc- day, according to time-honored custom, the various Foreign Ministers accredited to this Government, called, in a body, on Presi- dent Buchanan, and were, in form and in turn, presented to him by Mr Secretary-of- State Cass M. Their main strength in the late Presidential canvass was in their pro- testations of the purpose of working out their ends only lawfully ; as hollow as the well in- formed knew those protestations to be. Shorn of that subterfuge, and calling on their fol- lowers to put down the Government, the Con- stitation, aad the Courts, as barriers that must be swept away in the fulfillment of their “* mission,’’ they now stand before the world confessed naked and unadulterated abolition- ists, as we have always contended that they are. — Keeping their Hands In.—The New York Evening Post and Tribune, in their comments on the personnel of the new Administration, have evidently merely revamped their old -editorials of four years conceraing the gentle- men, individually, who composed the admin- istration of President Pierce. 1t is really amusing to note the entire identity between the articles to which we recur, composed, as they are, of the same old epithets, slurs and blackguardism. They made rothing what- ever (as the result of the Presidential election proved) by that ungentlemanly course; nor is it possible, with the experience which the public have in their system, that they will be able to persuade any man for whose respect either member of the present Cabinet should reasonably care, that their disparagement of ral mM ARRER'S Fancy’ nd Pestemery Shen, ancy an mar 11-3t¢ under National Hotel. ‘eLLUAITERTION Is Eee. n to his friends C AR D.—ATTENTION 18 RE®PECT- A fully called to the extensive sale of valusble Soiree will take Sloss nines ath » Farm. iB, q y ps agg? bog — of Sih and D streets, on WEDNESDAY the estate e m yy, C0 5 on MONDAY AFTERNOON, March 16th, at | Syihue gah ee ttt, 1857 o’clock, at the Auction Rooms, and contisuing each succeeding day, at that hour, until the whole is disposed of. mar 1l-d J.C. We know that in the non-slave- holding States there sre many who sincerely deprecated the repeal of the Missouri Com- nema There are many who have been rought up in the faith uf the Wilmot proviso. They, perhaps, bave not examined both sides of the question, and will feel a regret at this decision as deep as the pleasure of cur South- ern friends is ardent. Now this is all a farce of the broadest kind, besides a shameful waste of legislative time only for political effect. We will furnish them gratuitously with a few facts through which, if properly acted on, they can in a week cure all the terrible disa bilities of these negroes over which they are whining. If the members of the Legisistures aforesaid pity Dred and the rest of these ne- groes to the extent of say, ten dollars apiece, and if Mr. Sandford and Mrs. Emerson or her Massachusetts clerical busband share the ago nized ‘‘phelinks’’ of all Republican abolition” dom, the thing may be accomplished in a trice. Bat the truth is, the milk in this particular cocoa nut is not the fact that Dred & Co. are to continue in slavery; but that the law, as sffirmed by the highest judicial tribunal in the land, forever puts an estoppel on the plea that the principles of the Republican party are in aceordarce with constituticn and law.
