Jos Paixtin@.—Our patrons and the public are reminded that we are prepared to have their orders for Job Printing of every descrip- tion exeouted at the shortest notice, for the lowest prices and in the best and most satis- factory manner. All wanting such work done cannot do better than to apply directly at counter of the Star office. LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. \ Tus Dexocratic Catesration To-Day.— The celebration to-day in honor of the elec tion henry eS ecepr ge Jobn C. Breckin- ridge, up to the time of our going to press, San boas carried cut i afar: most credit. able to the city and to the Democratic party. In a spirit of enlarged patriotism, our citizens, without regard to party l.nes, have seemed disposed to unite to make the demonstration fitly commemorative of the signal bat hardly contested National victory just achieved. Cer- tainly no body of people in this Union have greater cause for rejoicing than have the citi- sens of Washington in the triumph of the friends of the constitution over that party of sectionalism and disunion whose heaviest blows, had it triumphed, would have been simed at the prosperity of our beloved city Court square began to present a lively ap- rance at an early hour as the delegations to arrive with numerous b: and amid the loud hurras of enthusiastic specta- tors. As fast as the delegations arrived, places were assigned them in the line of pro- cession, and shortly after 10 o'clock the pro- cession moved off in the following order : ORDER OF PROCESSION. Chief Marshal and Assistante. Marshal Hoover and Walter Lenox, Esq_., orc- tor of the day, in an open barouche. Esputa’s Band. Jackson Democratic Association, in force. Alabama delegation. Banner with motto, “The land of Fitzpatrick, King and Clay. Tho Democratic star that never sets. Ma- jority for Buck and Breck 1,805." Seventh Ward delegation with a beautiful ban- ner, lettered ** Union.” Illinois delegation with banner mottoed “Doug- las popular sovereigaty. Illinois for Buchanan and Breckinridge, 10,000 majority.’ Kentucky Delegation ; banner—motto, “ Ken- tucky, the first child of the Union; she greets her sister States with a smile of 8,000 majority.”* New Hampshire Delegation, with a beautiful banner, representing a ship on the stocks and rising sun Fifth Ward Delegation, with music, an im- mense national flag, and a cannon. Germania Buchanan Club from the Navy Yard, with Withers’s Band and national flag. This delegation made a strong sbow, indeed. Louisiana Delegation, with banner mottoed— * Justice, Union, Confidence ;’’ “The first-born daughter of Jeffer- sonian Democracy ” Then came a splendid car draped with flazs aud drawn by ten white horses, bearing thir- Spee beautiful young ladies representing tl * je thirty-one States of the Union, and waving flags. T cattaes bearing a buck, and embellished with Bohn’s portraits of Buck and Breck. This was followed by the Salt River steam- er—the ‘‘fiarriet Beecher Stowe’’—lettered The “Ho for Salt River with despatch. Steamer Disunion, J. C. Fremont, Oaptain ; Horace Greeley, Cook and Steward.” This team, which was draped in mourning, driven by a gentleman of color, and drawn by « hard-looking beast dressed in an extra skin, so a8 most appropriately to represeat the ‘woolly horse,” elicited shouts of laughter everywhere on its travels. Sixth Ward Delegation, with a banner in- seribed “Sixth Ward ever true to the principles of Democracy.”’ Monument on a csr, inscribed with the names of States in the Democratic pyramid, and otherwise variously lettered and ornamented. Then came buck’s horns on a pole; and then THE SHIP from the Navy Yard, already described in the Star, and which was the nfost noticeable fea ture of the procession, being a perfect model of a ship full rigged and manned by ten sail- ors who were going through various ship- board evolutions, throwing the tlead, manning the 1s, firing cannon, splicing ropes, &c. Geo: wn delegation, in formidable numbers, including the Buck and Breck Club, No.1; the Georgetown Democratic Associa tion, the Young Men's Union Association, and the ‘* United Sons of Liberty.’” The Georgetown delegation had Weber's band and numerous handsome and apprepri ate banners. One which created much amuse- ment was surmounted by a cage containing a diseonsolate looking live crow low were the words, “We have caged the Black Re- ublican.”’ jouth Carolina Delegation, with a banner bearing the inscription: “ The Con. stitution : the ark of our Nation- al Covenant.” Georgia Delegation, with a banner inscribed, “* Constitation—W isdom—J ustico— Moderation. Buchanan 14,000.” Delaware Delegation, with a most elaborately- worked and highly-finished banner, lettered —*‘ Delaware ; the ffrat to adopt the Consti- tution. May her sons ever adhere to origi- nal principles.’ On the reverse—‘ Pre- sented by the Ladies to the Democracy of Wilmington, Delaware, 1#44."" This ban- ner bears a portrait of Jefferson, painted by the celebrated Woodside, wf Philadelphia, and said to be one of the best in existence New Jersey Delegation—banner “ Liberty, Prosperity ; True to the Constitution and the Union.”’ Florida Delegation —banner “In God we Trust.”’ “The Constitution the only Safe- guard of the Rights of the States."’ Citizens in carriages brought up the rear of the procession The Avenue, as the proces- sion moved along in the direction of Gsorgo- town, was crowded with innumerable specta tors, who manifested the liveliest enthusiasm by cheers, waving handkerchiefs and hats, and other demonstrations. It was undoubt- edly the most imposing and successful demon- stration of the kind ever witnessed here, and the Demvcratic party and the city may well be proud of it : Ciacurr Courr.—Yesterday, several ap- peal cases on suits upon promissory notes were disposed of inthis court. Morsell vs WS Mulloy, Jobn Mulloy and Thomas Parsons, sppeal from a magistrate’s decision: verdict for plaintiff. A. Davis vs. Hunnicut; verdict for plaintiff Kephart and Darby vs. Kiernon; verdict for plaintiffs. Selden, Withers & Co vs. Nicholson; verdict for plaintiffs The most interesting case, and which at- tracted considerable attention from the audi- ence, was the replevin case of MeDermot vs. Yeastman. The plaintiff in this case replevied two sorrel horses levied upon by defendant to satisfy an execution, alleging that he held a deed of trust in histavor. The Court instruct ed the jury that they must believe from the evidence that they were the identical horses mentioned in the deed of trast, and not sub stituted in piace of the original horses, or must have been delivered to the trustee; otherwise they must find forthe defendant. The jury returned 2 verdict fur the defendant. Davidge for plaintiff, Morgan for defence. — Tee [LieMination To-Nigat.—We trust that the illumination to-night will be general in consideration of the happy results to us as Washingtonians, and to the country at large, of the late Democratic triumph, in restored 1, barmony and security, what citizen will egrudge the little time and exyense required of each to give proper ec/at to the congratula tory jubilee to-night. Let every patriot and well wisher of his country contribute his qaota to the sucess of the demonstration; and let every window in the National Metropolis blaze with illuminations! To give the isplay ite fullest effect it would be well if some partiou- a 8 o’elook p. m.—were generally fixed on as the time for lighting up. Fouxp Drownep.—This morning a colored woman and child were found drowned in the canal near Third street. The womans name is Mary Hill; and it was supposed that while intoxicated, she wandered off with her child, @ boy about three years old, and fell into the canal where she was found. The coroner had been sent for, but a jury had not been sum- moned when this paper went to press. Counrerrgir.—Yesterday, we saw a coun- terfeit quarter eagle which had been passed on @ gentleman as genuine. It represents the coinage of 1856, and is well calculated to deceive good judges. On being submitted to a slight preesure Nicaea in pieces, and proved to be zinc or some other base motal coated with gold. Gzorer Anprew Dover.—A day or two since the name of George Dover was inserted in our watch house returns. We take occasion to say that the person named on that occasion was not George Andrew Dover, a tanle colored yonth who resideson H street, and who conducts himself in all respects properly. Centre Marxet.—The market was not so crowded this morning, yet the supply was plenteous and purchasers numerous. GEORGETOWN CORRESPONDENCE. Georgetown, Noy. 27, 1856. We are pleased to see that our river chan- nel ie beginning to attract more than usual at- tention. As this is a matter of all others, except one, of most importance to our commercial in- terests, it is to be hoped that our (local) Con- gressional committee will pay but little atten- tion to matters of comparatively no impor- tance and direct all their efforts toward se- curing from Congress, at an early period of the session, an appropriation sufficient to tho- roughly remove the obstructions now in the way of navigation. Moreover, it is a matter in regard to which there need be no diversity of opinion, either among ourselves or between us and our neighbors of Washington, as the improvement would tend directly to the mu- tual bonefit of both cities. As we have ro- marked on a former occasion, we conscien- tiously believe that the shipping business of Washington must ultimately centre at and near the mill of Morgan & Khinehart.and Es- pey’s Point ; consequently it must be of the utmost importance to her citizens to secure the very best facilities for the ingress and egress of vessels of heavy draft of water. And so far as we as a community are con- cerned, we are satisfied from facts withio our reach that an addition of four to six feet to the present depth of water in the channel would very nearly, if not quite, double our commerce in a year or 80, and bring into our mnidst, to be invested chiefly in the coal trade, from three to five millions of dollars, besides enabling the companies now located here to largely increase their present business. Our city is unusually quict this morning. The only stir of any kind visible is among the Democracy, who are preparing to unite in the grand celebration of to-day. Their banners, transparencies, mottoes, &c., are in good taste, and doubtless some of their burlesques will grate rather hard on the sensitive nerves of some of the Know Nothings just at this time From preecnt indications there will be a very general turn out. Business of every kind in our city continues tolerably brisk, especially along Water street and the wharves In this quarter every thi presents rather an unusual degree of life activity. The number of large class schoon- ers, mostly eowtichats and ae —s. re- ceiving and dischar; cargoes, is quite large. Mr H “pr cegrend resigued the office of President of the Vigilant Fire Company. As yet we believe th cancy bas not been filled is one of the oldest active firemen in the District, having entered into the service some twenty-odd years ago. The flour market continues in an unsettled state. The views of holders are rather above those of buyers. There is as yet but very little doing. Probably during the day the market wll become more settied and operations more extensive. Held nominally at $4.62 to $0.87 for good standard brands “The wheat market is uiso unsettled aud inclined to droop.
