“LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. Youxa Man Missina.—Fout Piay Sus- pscteD.—Mech anxiety, we learn, is felt by bis relatives for the safety of a young man by the name of Claxton, (son of Mr. Richard Clax- ton, Printer, an esteemed ci‘izen,) who left his home in Georgetown on Monday night for this city, and was last seen about 10} o'clock of the same night by Mr. Luckett, a friend of his, standing at the corner of Seventh street and Pennsylvania avenue, where he (Claxton) wes iting for an omnibus. Mr Claxton worked the jewelry establishment of Mr. Blackford in Georgetown, and was a young man remark- ably correct, regular and temperate in his habiis; which makes his absence the more un- accountable and startling, and it is feared that he has met with foul play. It is to be hoped that, with public attention called to the fact, some person may be able to afford some clue to the di family by which they may be able to ascertain the where- abouts of the missing son and brother. Young Claxton is about six feet in height, slender built, rather pale. and very reserved He was dressed in a black frock cout, black vest, snuff-colored pants, and gray shawl. Any in- formation in regard to him left with us or with Mr. T.J Fisher, at MeGuire’s auction store, will be promptly communicated to his family in Georgetown. DissouveD Eien after ry hag money to square off all accounts against them, as bene ioe should do, the Pennsylvania Democratic clab of this city adjourned sine die, like sensible men, as they are. When thus dissolving themselves into their original elements, a resolution was pending before them for the appointment of a committee of five to make arrangements with similar committees of other Democratic clubs and associations for the proposed jubilee over their recent victory. The New York clab dissolved some days ago. We hope to be able soon to announce that all the rest of them have thus passed off the stage, with the occasion giving birth to them; if but by way of insurance that in no other Demo- cratic organization in our midst will there oc- cur such scenes as took place on the platform of the Jackson Democratic Association on Mon- day night last. Fourtu Axxva Batt or tag Presipent’s Moustep Guarp.—From what we gather about town, the Guards Ball, announced to- night at Carusi’s Saloon, is in anticiption cre- ating an intense sensation in the ball-goinz community, amounting toa decided furore. It is whispered that many distinguished guests are to be present, with the regiment of District volanteers in fall uniform, and an unprece- dented array of the beauty and fashion of the National Metropolis. The ball opens at 9 oelock with a grand promenade and the per- formance by Espata’s Band of the “ Presi- dent's Mounted Guard Quickstep,’’ composed by Professor Esputa and dedicated to Captain Peck. D’Ivernois, prince of caterers, fur- nishes the supper, wnich is all that need be said on that score. Centre Market.—The supply thia morn- ing was as plentiful as usual in Thursday + ket. The attendants at the scale bouse kept busy for a time weighing the coun- try pork which had been brought in for sale during the night and morning. This pork was of excellent quality, and sold from $8 to $9.50 per 100 Ibs. The quantity was not large, but excited expectations of future arrivals The hay market was well supplied and that arti- cle was selling rapidly at $1 and $1 25 per ewt. The dealers in this market complain of being robbed by persons, who tear the hay from their wagons to such an extent as to de- crease the weight considerably while they are waiting for purchasers. This sort of pilfering will require the attention cf the police Baspy anv Sainpy.—There is a law of the Corporation against persons playing bandy or shindy in the streets, and the penalty is a fine of not_less than one dollar for every of- fence The officers do not like to,interfere with the sports of the boys, but complaints have been made of persons injured and windows broken with their bandy balls, and the officers have been ordered to stop them from playing in the streets. The boys had best betake themselves to the fields with their games, where they Will not endanger persons or property, other- wise they will run the risk of fines and costa. Commirrzp —We noticed some daya ago the srrest of a man in Baltimore by the name of Briebang, charged with stealing and selling a horse, the property of Mr. White, who resides in the neigubornood of this city. Briebang was brought to this city and placed inoustody of Ufficer Keese, who took him before Justice Murphy. The case was examined and the prisoner committed to jail for trial at court. Fause ALanu —An attempt was made last night to create an alarm of fire about eight o'elock, but it did not succeed. The firemen being apxious to preserve order in the city and to prevent the circulation of malicious Tumors against the department, will not notice unless they have reason to believe their services are needed. Matrerovs Miscarz? —S»me malicious per- son, within a few days past, has gratified his propensities by driving a nail into the vent of one of the boat howitzers belongiog to the Government, and which have been at the City Hall since the retura of President Pierce from his late visit to New Hampshire. Ma James Homwert, an aged citizen of Washington, fell doal yesterday on Bridge street, Georgetown, where he had beon on a visit to a grandchild residing there An ia- quest was held by the coroner, and the jury returned a verdict of “death from cause uu- known to the jury.”” Sxcurtty ror Court —Last evening, Justice Hollingshead required M Thornsbury to give $300 secyrity for his appearance at the Crim- inal Court for an assauit and battery on Kich- ard Adamson, and A. Columbus was dis- missed. Adamson was held to bail in $266 for an assault on Columbus Recovgninc.—Mr. O’Brien, who was shot by Timothy Sullivan on Saturday, is recover- ing from his injuries. He went to Justice Goddard's office, this morning, on business connected with the case. His face and mouth are much scared by gun shot, but the wounds are not serious. Hoe Sreauixe —K ently, residing near the northern boundary of the city have lost valuable hogs. The police are on the track of the thieves who will be likely to suffer some unless they save their bacon by Prompt restitution of the stolen property. several persons Circuit Court.—The places in the court room on ouday, in readi- ness fur the opening of the jury trials As yet he oases of interest to the public have been disposed uf — Assauct anv Barrery —Thos.
