While one large body had gathered at the railroad station, another was forming at the Jackson Associa- tion headuarters, from whence it marched in force down the Avenue, preceded by With- er’s fine band. We had no idea there were so many Democrats in the District. The as- Know-Nothings peeped out of their holes, rubbing their eyes and staring with blank open-mouthed amazement ; and as bp lanx after phalanx of the apparently endless procession moved past, each Know-N. seemed mentally to ask himself, ‘ Will they stretch till the crack of doom ?”” Now, considering the bad luck of the Know Nothings in such matters, it seems like posi- tive cruelty to allude to the subject; yet we can’t help calling their attention to the fact that this was something lik recession. It struck every body, too, what amazingly good- looking men, th» Democracy are Compari- sons are odious, yet the rs could not well avoid forming a mental contrast between the athletic, cheerful, handsome, broad-»hest- ed, well-developed, amiable-looking citizens who marched in the Democratic line to-day, and the discontented, ring-streaked, dyspeptic- locking mortals who straggled along in the late remarkable Know Nothing pageants The Know Nothings, of course, can’t help their looks, but there is no earthly need of their making an exhibition of themselves in | astes processions to the detriment of scary orses and young mothers. Tax Matovgen Troupe bad another pros- porous soiree last night at Odd Fellows’ fan. ust look at their bill for to-night’s perform- ance. It’s worth a quarter to wit- ness the last item in the programme Lagceny.—Mr. Norwood of the auxiliary —— arrested a lad named John Rowe, who charged with the larceny of potatoes and various articics from the market. Rowe has been away for a season, and is but recently returned to the city. The case was laid be- fore Justice Donn, who, in order that all the witness might appear, committed him to jail for a further hearing. Centre Marxet —The market epace could not accommodate all the dealers who were io the market this morning; consequently the curb line of the Avenue from Seventh te Tenth street was occupicd by country wagons and carts. The supply in all the branches was ample, and the prices, except for scarce articles, not unreasonable. SmakSPERIAN READINGS.—By the advertise- ment in another column it will be seen that Mr. Charles Newton, assisted by eminent tal ent, will give another of his attractive Siaks- perian entertainments to-night. 3 A Worp ow Beaury.—According to tradi- tion Mahomet was distinguishod by the beau- ty of his person. Every good looking lady and Genticmen of the present day may become equally celebrated by using Fontaine’s Solid- ified Cream of Wild Flowers. It shaves su- perbly, in washing leaves a delightful velvet like softness of the skin, removes tan, is us much an antidote against eruptions as any- thing but good health can be, cleans the teeth, sweetens the mouth, and is considered by ths ladies of New York and Philadelphia, who are beginning to use it exclusively, as one of the most admirable saponaceous toilet com- pounds in use.
