Our city, this morning, n & feverish state of excitement in foonsequence of the returns which have been received of the Pennsylva- nia electior. Agreeable to our anticipations there was no meeting of our City Councils on Monday night. Only five members made their appearance, the rest paring received no official notifica- tion. We understand that it is more than likely Mayor Addison will be requested to call a meeting on Friday evening. No less than three of the belles of our city were captured yesterday, and carried prison- ers of matrimony by three gentlemen of old mother Maryland. Two of the ladies were daughtersof our esteemed fellow citizen Judge Morsell, and the other was Miss Washington. The gentlemen are, Mr. Craighill, of the Army, Mr. Bowie, and Kev. Mr Mooser, of the Presbyterian church Rev Drs Norwood and Eckard ratified the interesting treaties. We discover that a new brand of flour has made its —— in our market. t is manufactured at the old Occoquan mills, whi have recently passed into the possession of Pe- ter Berry & Co., of ourcity. Upon inquiry of our inspectors we learn that in point of quali- ty it ranks among the very best brands offered in the market We learn that one of the money-changers who were operating in the District some time since, turned up in our cit; ‘in on Monday. He went into the store of “Siaso , on Brid street, pretendedly to get a ten dollar gold piece changed, and while Mr. M. was in the act of accommodating him, he (the sharper) attempted to swindle him out of a portion of that which he had given him. Mr M. was too sharp for him, however, and detected him in the act of secreting the coin in a handker- chief which he held in his hand. Look out for him. We learn that some of the mills in the up- per counties of Maryland and Virginia have nearly stopped in consequence of the drought. Some which have heretofore sent to our mar- ket from 100 to 150 bbls. of flour per week are now sending only from five to ten. This in part accounts for the very light stock of flour now in our market Quite a spirited meeting, composed of the Western Star and Hook and Ladder Compa- nies, was held in the hall of the Western Star engine-bouse, on Monday night.
