FYENINGS R. ‘NTELLIGENCE, a A Boarp oy AtpeRMEeN.—The Board met at the usual hour yesterday. The reading of the journal, excey tion relative to the protest of Mr. the protest itself, was sed with. Mr. Dove stated that the protest contained a charge against the Mayor, and moved that the whole matter be referred to a committee. The Chair decided the motion out of order at this time. Big- ler, and reported a bill for the relief of Joseph Mr. Dove offered a resolution requesting the Common Council to return to this Board the petition of Corbin Baker ; passed Mr. Ruff, from the committee on public schools, asked to be discharged from the con- sideration of the petition of the Northern Liberty Fire Tr for the removal of the public school from the engine house. Also, the communication of the president of that company in relation to matters in controversy between that company and the Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the public schvols ; not discharged. Mr. Miller moved that the papers be re- ferred back to that committee, with instruc- tions to report the facta and the best mode to pursue in reference thereto; agreed to. Mr. Moore, from committee on unfinished business, reported back a bill for relief of Robert Devereux ; referred to claims commit- tee. Mr. Busey, from the joint committee on the Georgetown annexation subject, reported a bill to defray the expenses of the committee ; Mr. Miller, from same committee, offered a resolution asking the Mayor for certain infor- mation for the use of said committee; adopted. Mr. Bayly, from the improvements commit- tee, reported a bill to complete the grading end gravelling of F street south, between Four-and-a-half and Canal streets; passed Council bill for repairs of @ street south, between Twelfth and Thirteenth streets east, WA Uill maki for thi ill maki ropriation for the support of the coeagpats agen infirm, for the year ending 30th June, 1856, was referred. A bill authorizing the grading of G street, between New Jersey avenue and Tiber Creek, ‘was referred. Mr. Busey effered a resolution uesting the Mayor to obtain from the Chief of Police information relative to judgments obtained, returned, and on hand, by the officers prior to the inauguration of the Mayor ; Mr. Pearson moved to take up the relief of W. G. Deale; it was taken up, and on motion, the Board adjourned. Ove Buitprxe Association Crosep —The board of directors and stockholders of the “ Washington Building Association,’’ met at Potomac hali, inthe Seventh Ward, on Monday evening, 15th September inst. Present, Jo- seph Stephenson. President; John Van Res- wick, Treasurer; Craven Ashford Secretary, and Directors James Frasier, Jr., Richard Barnhouse, David Fowble, Jesse Oagood, John Hi. Griffith, Jobn Q. Wilson, Joseph D. Ward and William Ashdown; also a large proportion of the stockholders. The President called the Meeting to order, and the Secretary read hiz Teport, in substance as follows : That every share of stock had been re- deemed; all debts due by the association aid, and there remained in the treasurer's ands a surplus sufficient to divide to each share of stock, (held by those stockholdere Who bad taken loans and paid in their dues and interest to its close,) a fraction over two dollars and fifty cents. The secretary co! tulated the stockhold- €rs upon the successful termination of the as- sociation, and thanked them for that kindness, courtesy, and forbearance which had univer- tally been extended to him. He was happy to sey that harmony and good order had inva- Tiably characterized their proceedings, ard that the stockholders had promptly aud bon- orably complied with their obligations. Out of one hundred and sixty-seven stockholders at the crganization of the association in May, 1547, only nine (so far as he knew) had died ; and, what was remarkable, of all the proper- ty pledged to the association for loans, and loeated in different sections of the city, not one dollar’ s damage had been sustained by fire The secretary closed his remarks by tendering to the stockholders, individually, his best wishes for their future health aud saat ir John E Kendall, Esq , then arose, and after & few remarks offered the following resolu- tions, which were unanimously adopted : Resolved, Vhat the thanks of the members of the Washington Building Association be and they are hereby tendered to its officers—the President, Treasurer, Secretary, Boards of Di- rectors, and Trustees—for the long and ardu- ous services and the very satisfactory manner in which they have conducted its affairs from the commencement until its close. Resolved, That the balance in the treasury, after making the distribution to the members of the Association of their respective shares, as indicated by the report of the Secretary, together with such outstanding debts due the Society by some of its members, to be collected by the Secretary, and after paying such bills as may be outstanding again the Associa- tion, the balance be and is hereby appropria- ted to bis use and benefit asa smali testimo- nial of regard for his long and faithfal services. Resolved, That according to the terms of our “‘constitution,’’ this association has ter- minated and closed. Thomas was arrested by Police Officer Ross, and after trial, before Justice Hollingshead, he was held to bail in $266 to spent at the December term of the Criminal Court. Pickpockets.—Last night, Mr. Brown, the Sropuistor of the bowling saloon on D, near ighth street, complained to Capt. Baggott that he had his pocket picked ef sixty dollars in his own saloon. His suspicions rested on stranger who had been there during the evening.
