He sppeared to be well ted in the creed of his church, and pro- essed to be a firm believer in the genuineness of the Prophet Joe Smith. He was one of the large number who left this State for Nauvoo during the first excitement produced by the advent and preaching of Mormonism. Re- turning, however, after the destruction of the city, he again eettled in Hornerstown, where he continued to practige the duties of his el- dership until November last, when he died suddeuly. He had but one wife. The saint upon whom the mantle of Elder Curtis seems to have fallen is an Eoglishman by birth, named Richard Tracedet, who omi- grated to America after his conversion to the faith. He is seemingly a man of considerable intelligence—has but one wife—and, though not an old men, has thirteen children A Mormon camp-meeting is to be held near this place shortly, under the chi of Eider raced The time is not pag oe but it Will likely commence on Thursday, Septem- ber 12. A large delegation of the saints ix expected from Tom's River and vicinity, where they are said to be quite numerous. The society has embraced a number of re- spectable and wealthy farmers of this neigh- borhood; but now new converts are seldom made, and with emigration and the constant felling from grace, number is ually dwindling down, and a few years will witness the extioction of Mormonisa in the section of Monmouth and Ocean.
