<¢ EVENING STAR. LOCAL INTELLIGENCE, eee FFF Tae craxp Miitary ann Cryic Excur- SION OF THE aineton Licnt Inrantrr.— With genuine gratification wo avail ourselves of the opportunity to commend to our readers the superb excursion announced by that effi- cient and excellently disciplined company, the Washington Light Infantry. The members of this company are gentlemen and soldiers in every respect, and as such have won for them- selves upiversal regard both at home and abroad. In respect to the excellent drill and efficient organization of the Infantry, a com- liment is deservedly due to theircommander, Eaptain James Y. Davis, than whom a more able officer or worthy gentleman does not exist. The Infantry propose, it will be seen, to celebrate their twentieth anniversary by an excursion down the river and bay to Old Point, Norfolk and Portsmouth. They have char- tered the Powhatan and will leave this city at 2o'clock, p m. on Friday, September 12tb, and returning will reach Washington on Mon- day morning, the 15th. at6a.m. The trip is notonly a most desirable one in itself, but with the good order sure to be maintained by the Infantry, has additional inducements to those who ordinarily deny themselves the in- dulgence of such relaxations im dread of an- noyance from drunken rowdies. The tickets for the round trip are only $250. Cheap enough ! Taw Rertvrs or tue Excrersioxrsts.—The steamer Powhatan, Capt Chas. Mitchell, af- ter a delightful trip, arrived at her wharf this morning, about half-past six o'clock, with the excursion party who left here on Friday even- ing. During their trip nothing whatever oc- eurred to mar the general happiness which revailed among them, and the managers re- esived much praise for the excellence of their arrangements for the comfort and pleasure of their patrons, as well as for the admirable manner in which they were carried out. The meals, &c , were furnished by H N. Sheldon & Coke, and were gotten up in a style that would have done crelit to some of the firat class hotels, and showed that in catering for such parties they were au fait—their bill of fare, £o., pleasing the most fastidious. With- ers’ band supplied the music, and gave gen- eral satisfaction. Altogether, excursion No. 2 is represented to have been one of the most pleasant and well-conducted trips ever gotten up, and will long be remembered. Success should crown the efforts of the public-spirited citizess who furnished the opportunity for enjoyment to our city folks at so low a rate. * lose may they wave !"’ Tae Accipest to Mr. Latnau.—The Alex- andria Gazette of this morning says: ‘*We learn that Mr. Latham was not run over, as stated in Saturday’s Gazette, but that he sus- tained very severe injuries. He was seated on the top of the baggage on the wagon. and was ou the way to the Depot of the Washing- ington branch railroad, up Pennsylvania avenue, Washington, when by some accident he was precipitated to the ground, striking on his head and shoulder, and was severely in- jured. Mr. L was brought to this city, and medical aid promptly rendered, and we are pleased to announce that he was, on Saturday, in a fair way of 2 speedy recovery.’” Ficatixe asp AssacLts.—During Satur- day night several complaints were made to the Captain of the Guard of assaults on various persons. One young man was struck on the bead with a slung shot or stone, and a severo wound inflicted by a man named Dawson. Justice Hollingshead issued a warrant for his arrest. Tas Natioxit Tawatre.—“ Romeo and Juliet’’ was performed on Faery night very much to the satisfaction of the audence. Mr. Davenport made a most acceptable Mercutio ; Mr. Boniface, always» favorite in this city, made himself new admirers in the part of Romeo, and we need hardly say that t! oes of Julia was admirably performed by Mrs. Davenport. Indeed, the most crabbed bachelor present must e felt some touch of the tender passion while beholding the per- sonation of the loving Juliet by Mrs. D To- night, Bourcicault’s brilliant ‘‘ London Assu- tance’’ will be performed. Our old favorite, Joseph Jefferson, make his bow to his Wash- ington friends to-night on his return from bis Old Worid trip. The troupe, we notice, has arrived, and has planted its extensive canvas in Centre Market space, in readiness tor the opening of the equestrian campaign to night.
