It seems to have been deemed necessary to take another vote on its fioal passage, by reason of which my views do not appear by my vote. My opinion is, that, as Mr. Venable was ascertained, by a com mittee of this Board, not to have been elected from the Sixth Ward, by reason of his not having been a freebolder on the day of elec- tion, then the person returned by the commis- sioners as having received the next highest number of votes, he being otherwise = qualified and eligible, was duly elected exemined myself the original returns from . the Sixth Ward and ascertained Lemuel Gad- + dis to be that person, and I therefore regard him as being entitled tothe seat for which the Board has ordered a new election to be held in the Sixth Ward.” Mr Towles made an adverse rt on the petition of John Kenny, and asked to be dis charged from its further consideration ; agreed to By A. The gloomy, rainy weather of yesterday wound up last night with a considerable storm from the northwest, accompanied by consid- erable thunder and lightning, and a drench- ing rain. This morning the weather ischarm ing, a bright mild sun, and a stiff, but balmy northwester, makes one feel ag though they had been suddenly transported into another latitude. We would advise the youths generally tobe cautious how they carry fire-arms about them. We know of one—a very estimable one, too,— who received a ball wound in one of his legs lege, a few nights since, by the premature discharge of a pistol, which accidentally fell from the hand of one of his companions, which may possibly lame him for life We would advise all the readers of the Star who may wish to obtain their winter’s supply of the very best quality fuel, and at, moderate prices, to examine the advertivement of our young friends, Mr. John W. Myers & Co. An individual styling himself one of that very numerous family, ‘‘ John Smitb,’’ and hailing from Mlarpers’ Ferry, entered the dwelling cf Dr Grafton Tyler, which he found open, early yesterday evening ; but being dis- covered one of the family he beat a hasty retreat. From there he went to the dwellin of R P. Dodge, Esq , which he entered, an stole therefrom one of a pair of heavy silver tes. The loss was soon discovered ; and it javing been ascertained that an individual had offered for sale, in the neighborhood, such an article, Officer Silence was put upon his track, and soon succeeded in capturing the thief and recovering the stolen plate. Le was examined this morning before Justice Reaver, who fully committed him to jail.
