Francis B Lord was accepted and sworn. While the qualifications of this juror were under discussion, the Court mentioned as one of the evils of newspaper publications in such cases that the thing was talked about and opinions formed. r. Lord stated that he had formed snd expressed an opinion, but did not think it would interfere with the discharge of his duty as ajuror. The District Attorney objected that Mr. Lord was disqualified by qa having expressed an opinion, but the Court de ided Mr. Lord to bo a competent juror, and he was accordingly swern in. Stephen Henning was challenged by the de- fence; John Bayno ditto. James Crandall was found qualified, but asked to be excused on the ground of illness. He was not excused. Henry Steers was challenged by defence. Thomas Millstead was accepted and swora. Thomas Crown was challenged by defence. Jobn Kaight was excused on the ground of his being a Government clerk. Joseph T. Walker was excused on account of illness. Edward C. Dyer stated that he had beenon the Coroner’s jury and had there formed an cpinion Samuel Owens was accepted and sworn.
