EVENING STAR. “LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. Nationan Tazatre —The national dramat- ization of John P. Kennedy’s novel of ‘“« Horse Shoe Robinson,”’ was produced last evening at this establishment with great success. It is one of the best productions of the kind we have ever witnessed, abounding with interest connected with the struggle for independence by our glorious ancestors, and should be seen by every one. The play has been cast by all the talent of the managers’ two thea- tres, with Mr George C. Boniface and Mr. J. Wallace added to the strength of the com- pany. Mr. Boniface, as Horse Shoe Robinson, for the first time, performed the character with much weight, and fully gave us the idea the author portrays of that distin- guished personage. Mr. Wallace performed the part of Colonel St. Jermyn. This is a most difficult and unpleasant part, yet traly historical, and this young gentleman was ex- ceedingly happy in its delineation. A combat at the concluding portion of the piece by these two characters was powerful and effective. The crowded state of our columns prevents a more extended notice—still we commend this performance to every lover of the drama. Mr. Jefferson appears each evening in a favorite farce, which is all shat is necessary to remark in this connection. Tas Fraxkors Fire Company, of Wash- ington, visited this city yesterday, and were received and entertained by the Sun Fire Company. Headed by Weber’s brass band, and each Company drawing with it their ap- piratus, the precession paraded through the streets—Capt. George Duffey acting as Chief Marshal. © have seldom seen finer looking or more handsomely uviformed companies. A sumptuous repast had been prepared, at the instance of the Sun Fire Company, by Mr. S. Tennesson, at his Restaurant, on Royal street, near the City Hotel, to which both Compe- nies cat down, and ample justice was done to the viands. After dinner the procession was again formed and paraded to the steamboat, when the Franklin Company took their de- perture, baving spent a delightful day. Each Company numbered about fifty men, and the Procession formed an imposing pageant — Alex Garstte. —_— Taran Accipgst.—As the Columbia Fire. Company was on its way last night to the fire pon Seventh street, a lamentable accident occurred, which occasioned the almost instant death ef Mr. Benjamin Greenup, a young man well Enown and much ‘respected in this community. It seems that in coming from the engine house to Tennsylvania avenue, the most active men are usually selected to guido the engine down the hill, which is very steep, and it is as much asa swift runner cin do to keep in front of the apparatus Last night, we learn that the speed of the engine was so great, that it was necessary to check it by changing the direction In doing this, Mr. Greenup was caught between the tongue or guiding-pole of the piyenses and alamp post, and so injured that he died ina few winutes. Manaus Apotrae.—All the world has heard of Madame Adolphe. She is a Sybil, but she svorus and laughs at what is called “ fortune telling” aud the humbug of astrology. As we uuderstand it, she does not profess any su- pernatural powers, but claims to be a thor ough phrenologist, physiologist, and sympa- thist. Her knowledge of these, together with quickness of perception and rather remarka- ble powers of observation, we suppose, enable her to tell of the past, present, and future, with the puzzling accuracy for which she is famed, without resort to supernatural agen- ei in these exciting political times there are certainly a good many aspirants who are anxious to know something of their future, and we think Madame Adolphe shows tact and good judgment in visiting Washington just at this juucture. See her card. Horripte Arrair.—This morning a color- ed man named Nace Slater, was carried to the central station by twoof the auxiliary guards He was horribly cut with some sharp instru- ment, bis entrails, disclosed by some cf his wounds. There had been a dance near Dr. Haw’s farm, on the outskirts of the city, and Slater was there, a fight was excited, and a colored inan, name unknown, drew a razor, attacked Slater, and wounded him as we have stated. Doctors Force and Blanchard were sent for, and after dressing his wounds, had him placed ina lic ae and carried to his home on Third street. The man who inflicted the wounds had not been arrested, Tue City Markers opered this morning with a plentiful supply of provisions, fresh and beautiful. The vegetable market is rap- idly improving, and prices are beginning to be more within the means of all. The man- agement of the Centre Market, this morning, was attended to by Mr. Storm, the clerk, in person. The cangways were kept clear, noisy men end boys were silenced, and there was more of comfort in the market place than al. Mr. Storm is very competent to man- age the markets; and when he chooses to lay persuasion aside, and use the directing power, he siways succeeds in securing good order. Tue Fire.—This morning fire was discov- cred in the stable on Seventh street, belong- ing to Mr. Shreeve. The building was en- tirely consumed, but the horses and vehicles were saved This, from what we can learn, was doubtless the work ef an incendiary Mr. Sbreeve had gone to Maryland yesterday with a drove of horses, and no one slept in ble, nor was any fire or lights allowed e buildings. The loss is probably about twelve hundred dollars. The firemen worked as firemen should ; and their efforts to save surrounding property deserves the thanks of property owners in the vicinity. Covrr or Cuaims —Yesterday, Judge Black- ford delivered bis dissenting opinion in the case of the brig General Armstrong. Henry R. Seiden, Esq , of New York city, was admitted tc practise as an attorney in this court. The argument in the case of Susan Decatur vs the United States was closed by Mr. Law- rence, and the case was submitted for the de- cision of the court. The Solicitor made his argument in the case of Jacob Bigelow, administrator, vs. the United States, when the court adjourned. Just 1s Time —-Last night, information baving been given tothe Captain of the Aux- iliary Guard, that a gang of Loys were assem- bling in the Seventh Ward for the purpose of having « fight, he went tothe place where the belligerents were to meet, and found a erowd of about thirty lads, from fourteen to eighteen years of age, who were waiting for the time to begin operations. A short speech from the Captain, in which threats and per- fuasion wore used, dispersed the gang. Menper’s May Festivan.—The eleg. saloonof Prof Munder, next door, shows bay ndications of the approaching high festival of Flora. Many a little heart is beating high with hope and anticipation, and many an anx- ious glance given to the sky to judge of the weather. Thus fur al! is propitious, and there can be no doubt that an evening of thorough evjoyment is in store for all the fortunate, both young and old, who may attend the fes- Uval to-night. DeLecates.—At a meeting of the Jackson Domocratic Association, held on Monday night, May 5, the following gentlemen were elected to represent it in the Democratic National Convention. to convene at Cincinnati: James @. Berret, Wm E Spalding, Edward H Pen- dleton, Daniel Ratcliffe. P. Barton Key, Wm. H. Thomas, Jonah D Hoover, Mich. W. Clas- key, Wm. F. Nor, we are sure, did the audience regret their presence. As for ourselves, we came out a firmer believer than ever in Longfellow and his most exqui- site original and adoriginal Hiawatha. This talent lady, we see, gives a recitation to- night at Liberty Hall, Alexandria. Our Alex- andria friends will do themselves a favor by attending Lear Year Serenavde.—Monday night a young gentleman, residing just beyond the city limits, was complimented with a sere- nade by several yous ladies. Our informant says that several solos, ducts, &c., were per- formed in fine style, and that it was quite a niusical treat to our country neighbors. One of the pieces was a beautiful solo that re- quired great flexibility of voice to perform properly ; and the lady who sang it did so with ease and grace. Other pieces would have been performed, but a rather large audience beginning to assemble, the fair serenaders took to their carriage and returned to thocity. Goat ALLEY Gane —The following mem- bers of this disorderly crowd were arrested yesterday by Officer Wollard and taken be- fore Justice Smith, charged with fighting: Martha Stewart, Ellen Hall and Julia Gautt, held to bail for peace; Martha Tucker alias cae, and Jane Bell, dismissed. All col- ored. Figur on tae Avexve —Early last night a fight occurred on the corner of Sixth street and the Avenue between two young gentle- men. Neither was seriously injured, and they were separated and sent off before the watch- men, who were close upon them, arrived to ar- rest the parties. Conrinuep —The following additional nomi- nations of justices of the peace for the county of Washington, District of Columbia, have been confirmed, viz: Thomas J. Williams, W. ReMARKABLE Escare —In the recent Pan- ama massacre, one man showed a remarkable power of endurance, and was generally lucky all round. He was first shot in the thigh, which caused him to fall to the ground over his valise, which contained some $2.800. He afterwards received some thirty wounds by stabbing and gun shots, and laid insensible for hours. He finally was restored to con- sciousness, had his wounds dressed, and was doing well, while his valise was untouched by the natives.—Boston Times > Cramp. for Cramps fu the effectual remedy to or any other § OSTETTER'S SS.
