L Simmonds, in the trans- notions of the Highland Society, gives some interesting statistics of the number of swine raised in various countries, as nearly as can be ascertained {n the United States there are believed to be 50,000,000, or more than in all the States of Europe cowbined. In Great Britain, the number is estimated at 2.000 000, of which Ireland haa a large proportion, and Scotland nearly 200,000. Austria has about 5,600,000 swine, and Austrian-Italy 250,000.
