He is well known throughout that State, and was a most worthy and efficient officer. The above named itlemen are en route for Tennessee, where they are largely engaged in contracting. AT THE SMITHSONIAN.—The Musi- eal Convention will close its session by giving a grand concert this evening at the Smithso- vian Institution. We understand that no tickets will be sold at the door; but those desiring to go, (and we hope every body will go.) can ure tickets at Mr. George Hil- bus’s Musie Store, and at the different hotels and book stores on the Avenue. The Con- vention will be assisted by the Professors Jobuson and Frost, and the Misses Whitehouse and Briggs. The price of the tickets has been placed at twenty-five cents, thus affording an Lala for every body to be present. ‘The small admission fee is merely charged to meet the necessary expenses of the Conven- ton. DestitcTion.—A lady, well known as a leader of fashion and of benevolent works, in- forms us that there is on the Island, on K, between Third and Four-and-a-half streets, a Mrs. Carroll, 2 worthy but very poor and suf- tering aged woman. Some two years since she broke one of her limbs, and has been con- fined ever since. She is in such a pcor neigh- bLorbood, that there are none able to render ber apy aesistance. Will not some of our readers visit and relieve this worthy object of ebarity’ Stand not on the order of your go- ing, but go at once. Jons Frost, who is now in this vicinity, is very democtatic. He never goes among the well-housed, warnaly-clotued” children of wealth—at all events, he is not intimate with them; but his attention to the unfortunate oc- cupants of half-finished, dilapidated, and un carpeted rooms, is freezingly polite. Hiscom- panion, Boreas, will pass the silver knocker without an indication of respect, but the doors and windows of poverty must rattle from their hangings, and discharge all their old hate, to admit the rough old socialist. Tux Court or Cuarns met yesterday at the room appropriated to its use, in the north ex- tension of the Capitol building; but adjourned, without transacting any business, till this morning, the fitting up of the room not being uite completed. The court-room is about the size of the chamber in which the Supreme Court now holds its sessions, and will be ap- propriately fitted up. The conference room, and the room set apart for the use of the soli- citor and the clerk, immediately adjoin the court-room. ~—- Nationa Tearre.—Mr. Chanfrau and Miss Albertine appear to-morrow evening fur the first time in this city.
