A sailor at a Camp-meeting, im that part of the country, was a novel spectacle. Besides, the ‘salt’ was shabby in appearance; and, doubtless was minus in pocket of that peculiar kind of bal- last which gives {ts possessor an easy passage through life. Having been taken in tow by several benevolent old gentlemen, and coun- selled, and prayed for, and prayed over, he Fielded to “‘love’s irresistible sway,’ and while he himself declared others proclaimed that he was converted from “the errors of his ways.’’ The company rejoiced, and praised God for _his happy deliverance from the wiles eee Evil One. ut we have said that poorJack was shabby. He was ‘‘clothed in hie right mind,’’ thou, a not well clothed in body. So, one of the “‘sisters’’ went to a “ brother,”’ and begged a pair of pantaloons for him ; and from another mad so on, until the necessary articles m out from head to foot, were obtained, He was extremely well pleased with the kind- ness of his new friends, although, as he re- marked, he didn’t altogether like the awk- wardness of ‘the rig.”’ He had travelled far and wide, but never before met with such hospitality. Every tent was open to him, and at every table he was welcome. He was so happy that he wanted to stay there forever He never had seen such generous people in his life. He did not want to go to sea an more, and was willing to work on land. He doubtless had received many “hard knocks,” and, sailor-like, knew how to appreciate -kind treatment. _ A farmer took Jack home with him, promis- ing to take care of him and give him employ- ment. Granp Re-Usion.—It will be seen by the annexed pronunciamento, that if the philan- thropic and patriotic Professor Robertson is fortunate enough to secure his election as elerk of the House, he intends to concentrate the intellect of the metropolis around the fes- tive board. We deem it prudent to omit the locality, lest the crowd of applicants for tick- ets prevent the guests of the Hotel from reach- ing their rooms. Fortunate will be those who will have the good fortune to be present on this remarkable occasion. Selah!
