Beys as well as men, now-a-Jays, pay es- pecial attention to their wardrobe. e are aware of no establishment where they can be fitted to better advantage than at that of Wall & Stephens, at their elegant roems, a few doors east of the National Hotel. Gentlemen who shave themselves alone uow the provoking disadvantages of a dull Yazor, and the pleasure which one of keen edge inspires. T. 8. Galligan & Co., advertise La- coultre and Rogers's razors, the superiority of which is unsurpassed, together with all tho __ apparatus to facilitate shaving opera- ns. We are gratified to announce that our old friend, John H. Gibbs, at his hair-dressing and furnishing room, which has been elegantly refitted, (Wiilard’s hotel,) has a large and choice azsortment of furnishing and toilet goods. And it will be of interest to not a few gentlemen to learn that in the hair-dressing, shaving, hair-dycing, and wig departments, the arrangements will be found complete, as he employs none but thoroughly competent hands, and, besides, has a large experience in that department of business. Captain Jonas P. Levy offers great induce ments to housekeepers, being supplied with the best kinds of groceries extant. Ho is sel!- ing Harrison’s celebrated premium flour at S11 25a barrel. Covrt or Cram.—Yesterday, Judge Black- ford delivered the opinion of the court in the ease of Robert Koberts and others, claiming indemnity for the capture ef the ship Experi- ment, in the year 1505, by a privatecr bearing Spanish colors, which was immediately re- captured by a British cruiser, and under a decree of a British court of admiralty, sold for tho benefit of the captors. Said claim was presented tothe board of commissioners appointed to carry out the treaty with Spain concluded the 224 of February, 1819; also, to the beard of commissioners appointed to carry into effect the treaty concluded with France jn 1513, supposing it tohave been a French instead of a Spanish privateer by which the Experiment was captured. By both boards the claim was disallowed. The decision in this case was governed by that made in the case of Thomas and others; and an order to take testimony was refused In the ease of Benjamin A. Springer, c! i issions as ageut forpureh. © use of the navy, te. mony was ordered to be taken. J.-H. Tyson, Esq., opened the argument in the case of Minge, Elliott, and others, claim- ing damages for a violation on the part of government of a contract for improving the channel in the harbor of Mobile. The Solicitor o: the government replied, and the argument was concluded by Afr. Puil- lips, and tie case submitted. The court then adjourned. [communicater. Tax Sitver Tores early hour, the members of the Frauklin Fire Company were called te ether at their engine house, to witness the presentation and recep- tioa of the silver — which they had ained by tueir extraordinary activity in the Lan of dokets to the Concert of the Putowac Association. . The torches were presented by W. H. The entire party were then in- ited to Mr Fanning’s residence where a sup- a had been pene for them, and where they spent a merry time. Apery Earty.—lIt is said that the Corpo- ian has nearly as many inmates of the “farm’’-house a8 can be conveniently em- ployed or accommodated at present, but that there is room enough for only six more! There- fore, applications tor quarters must be made early. ——— Cexrne Manxet.—A tolerable supply of pro ns for man and beast; prices high, as usual, but purchasers are very Quinerous, ve never yet been reluctant hion:, looking, at the same Gentlemen will find at He is a all supplies, including Tar Lavycu or tag Mixxesora.—The an- nouncement that this war-steamer would be launeh; to-day, between twelve and one o'clock, intensely excited our pepulation, some of whom had never enjoyed a spectacle simi- lar to that which was promised. At Noon, thousands of persons, of all classes and conditions, were on ground, and their number was constantly increased by fresh ar- vivals. Hacks, omnibusses, and wagons of overy description, thickly rattled on to the grand point of attraction; an immense congre- > indeed, of interested witnesses. The ay beautiful, but rather cool, especially near the water's edge; but this discomfort was con- siderably meliorated by the anticipated launch and all the accompanying circumstances. Four or five steamers loaded down to their utmost capacity with speotators were in the river, near the point of attraction. All the wharves, surroudding hills and house-tops are covered with oe The President, his Cabinet, nearly all the members of Congress, and, we believe, the foreign ministers are there. _ The scene is a most enimated and interest- ing one, indeed. As we go to press we have not heard the firing of the salute signal that the event has come off. Tas Fiorences again delighted a lar, and fashionable audience i night at the Varieties, winning momentary outbursts of applause. Mrs F.’s impersonation of quizzi- eal characters is certainly second to no other theatrical artist in America. There is more genuine, unadulterated fun in her than in any other living actress in our country. She never fails to make the most of her subjects, doubling the interest of all her parts by throw- ing into them her own keen conception of the ludicrous, which is so sharp, so shrgwd, and so irresistibly comic, as to give our fat sides at least a terrible shaking whenever wo-venture to sit under the mesmerizing influence of her acting. As a stage dancer she is without a | superior among native-born Americans, while her voealism is of a high order indeed. Mr. Florence deserved richly the unstinted applause bestowed on him, for he is always equal to his ts. To us the charm of his acting is its fidelity to nature, which betokens a truer comprehension of the artist’s profes- sion than one often sces displayed on the stage. To-night is their last appearance in this city ; so let the house be a rouser. Accipent.—We learn that one day this week, while eleven mechanics and laborers were employed in removing, — by piece, the dome of the Capitol, the platform en whieh they were standing gave way, percipituting thera to the temporary roof. One was so se- verely injured that he will, it is supposed, die in cousc quence; while another who cut himself by falling on bis hatehet, is getting well. Lost.—A colored man, having a job of work near the canal, provided himself with a bottle of whisky to cheer his spirits, and, as ho cal- d, to impart to him additional strength. Some mischievous white boys having seen the aforesaid laborer take “a swig,’’ watched their vpportunity, and stole the liquid prop- erty, and probably drank it. Dick lost wore time in locking for the whisky than would have paid twice over for the beverage, and atter all did not find it! Tairvine 1x Marxet.—John Rove, the boy who was committed to the workhouse this morning, was caught by a markoter uncover- ing his egg basket, and afterwards in a neigh bor’s wagon, whence he was taken. Several persons have been robbed during the week by a boy, and from his description Rowe is sup posed to be the guilty party. Nationa Tuearte —The lovers of the drama must not forget that Miss Eliza Logan will appear to-night as Lucretia Borgia. She is on actress of great powers; a fact univer- sally conceded. Fatr.—This is the last night of the fair of the Methodist Episcopal Church South at Odd Fellows’ Hall. The ragments of the supplies will all be disposed of, by auction and other- Wise. Licensgs.—There havo been busy times at the Kegister’s oflice this week; merchants and traders resorting thither te procure their li- censes. — _Watcn Returys.—Isaac Collins, drunk and disorderly, workhouse 30 days; J.
