By these steps, enjoyment has been given t» thousands; and if you make men bappy. you make them good. Pictures are the vooks of the ignorant; by the contemplation of them they learn to see beauty, and to find elevating pleasure in what was before nothing. It is not every one, even of the more educated, who ean see the beautiful side of commen thing who can note the changing glories of a sky. or find constently recurring plessure ‘n the study of nature's countless combinations There are f:w things from which the eye that sees with the mind may not obtain de- light, and the contemplation cf works of art, and still more the use of the peucil, in the delineation ef nature, increase greatly this aptitude for pleasure, nud multiply infinitely the sources of enjoyment.
