LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. <« Bopsis’ AROUND, ARouND. ’’—Yesterday afternoon, between four and five o'clock, a well-dressed man was seen on Pennsylvania avenue, near Twolfth strect, under rather ex- traordinary civcumstanees. If his life had de- pended on “walking a chalk-line,’’ ere this e would have been numbered with the phy- sically defanct. Broad as is the sidewalk, it net too wide for his style of locomotion. Either from after-dinner indulgence, or over- fatigue—charity would incline to the latter— he made zig-zag paths; pitching first toward the houses, and then diverging to the curb, with exireme difficulty proserving his equili- briam. We question whether any cold-water advocate could have better performed the feat of thus “bobbin’ around,”’ and avoiding a lurch into a cellar, or a “‘spill”’ into the gutter. It seemed that the performer on this oecasion deccribed his with mathematical pre- cision. and with a due regard to the centre of gravity! The movements of the individus' attracted marked attention, particularly that of the crowd of zentlemen on the sieps of the Kirk- wood House, and of the numerous ‘“ whips,”’ polite and prompt, always in waiting in that vicinity. But the most amusing part of the performarces, or the second act, was ia reser- vation. Qur hero, after his ‘“‘bobbin’’ and pitching, apparently unconscious of the large crowd of spectators in attendance, came in contact with a lamp-vost! Convulsively he gvasped it, and then iilustrated the falsity of tie poetical axiom, : “* Many dangers do eaviron The man that meddle: with cold iron ;*" for in this case the metallic upright “' stood by him” o= a friend in need.
