Mixitany —A meeting of the officers of all tae volunteer companies wes held last night at Flint’s Hotel ; Captain Peck, of the Presi- dont’s Mounted Guard, in the ob: and Lieut. Schekell, of the National Greys, sec- retary One of the objects of ths call was. we learn, with reference to the issuing of commissions to the officers of the several javenile corps, in this city. It was contended that, in the pos sible absence of the proper officers on par: de, the command of the regiment might devolve upon one of the juvenile cfficers, who, by vir- tue of the date of bis commission, might ont- tack a min of mature age, holding a commis- sion of ala‘er date; seniority of commission governing in euch caces. A resvlution, designed to guard against such a or ntingency, was discussed, and finally laid on the table Tax Batt To-Nieut —The Franklin Fire Company's grand firemen’s, military, club, and civ o ball will take place at the National Theatre this evening The proceeds are to be appropria.ed toward the erection of a pew en- gine-house for the use of the company We doubt not it will be conducted in a style un- surpaseed by any heretofore given, and worth: of the good object for which it is intended. With good music, attentive and competent managers, and elegant arrangements in that spacious temple, the very many ladies and gentlemen who will there congregate cann:t fail to pass @ remarkably pleasant time The Franklin's balls have 8 been good, but th e to-night will certainly be better, if not the best of any of its predecesso.s. « 2 Rozpaeny —It is, we think, an evidence of searcity, either of provisions or funds, when strong, able-bod! men take to stealing the marketing of their neighbors ‘This morning a man, who calls himself Bill Kegan was caught in the act of stealing basket contain- ing a portion of the supplies for a family. We are informed that apeseernd night a gentle man had his basket, containing his supplies for Sunday and Monday stolen, and with it s piteber of milk, and several articles of value to bisfamily. Kegan was sent to jail this morning, but the otaer thief hasnot been ar- rested Granp Reetuentar Batt,—At the meeting of the officers of the several volunteer com panies, last night, it was decided to give a grand regimental ball, at the National The- atre, on Monday night, the 2lst inat. A com- mittee of one trem each company was ap po nted to make the necessary arragements, and Capt. J. Y. Davis of the Washington Light [nfentry, was selected to act as treasurer on the occasion. The object of the ball is to endeavor to replenish the treasury of the zev- eral companies, and Mr. Winder hae offered them the use of the theatre gratis.
