Qn Monday last twenty-three persona, including thirteen ladies and gentlomen, who wished to take tho cars for Doston, and ten feriymen, undertook to cross the river on foot. When about four hundred yards from the Montreal shore, 2 loud shouting trom the laud which they had quitied, and a starp hissing sound, caused by the rapid upturning of the ice above thom, warned them that a “ shovo’’ had commenced, and that the ice was moving down. ‘They were ina very dangerous posilion, and immediately com menced making for the shore.
