A Deuicutren Musicat Treat.—Itis very ‘rarely that we have in opportunity of hear- ing piano forte music. There is a viti ated public taste which insists upon a depart- ure from the high and classic, aud a proclivity among some performers to descend to clap- trap for the momentary gratification of a class whose ideas can ascerd no higher than the bones and banjo, or a miserabie attempt at intermi jing patriotic airs with the solemn music adapted to ti.echurch. This good music is al:.ays acceptable, e higher the stancard ‘he wore correct will be the public tase We realized this truth strongly yesterday evering, when listen- ing to the music of Mr. Robert liclier, at the music store vf Hilbus & Hitz. The performer was *‘ in the vein’’—he was surrounded by an appreciating audience, and it brought to our mind those occasions of which we read in the wausics] annals of Germany, where the great artists meet in private to give to each other those finer conceptions of the Leautiful which a staid and powdere! public know 60 little of We cannot express ourselves a3 ould, but ev lover musie knows what we mean. Mr. Heller,in our opinion, is vastly superior to avy other performer who has ever been in our city. Oxtersac Water Cotor Picrorss —An opportunity is now afforded the lovers of art, engl Messrs. Taylor & Maury, by the ex- hibition at their store, of eight water color paintings, by J.G Philp, of London. They were intended for the exhibition at New York, but arrived in this country too late, and were consequently sent on to Washington. We will not attempt to criticise such exquisite productions, but would recommend thcss who wish to see what glorious effeots can be pro- duced by water colors, to inspect them Paatsewortay —Profeesot Kanol, a leader of a cotillon band in this city, has been lying in a very dangerous state for several days pas’.
