A Dirrerence 1x Lecistation.— Messrs. Edstors: Can you inform us why a different mode of legislation should be pursued with different sections of thecity? Or, if the coun- cils have not legislated differently for differ- ent sections? Why are not che “ tavern laws”’ enforced in other sections as they are in the central wards. Respectfully, A Sorrszzz. Washington, Nov. 20, 1854. We think {t was the intention of our city fathers, in enacting the laws referred to, that they should bear equally on all parts of our city ; if there is any partiality, it is evidently the fault of the executors of the laws. As to the reason why the laws ase epforced in some parts of the city and not in others we respond, we “don’t know.” A Girt Concert anv No Humsve.—The gift concert of the Parrows, which came off at Odd Fellows’ Hall on Saturday evening last, was conducted in the most admirable manner, and to the satisfaction of every one. The prises were fairly distrituted, without the least trickery or partiality. A lady, residing on Sixth street, drew the fine gold watch; a gentleman, who holds a clerkship in one of the Departments, drew the bracelet; and others of the audience drew gold pencils and rings. We judge that the only persons who lost by the operation were the Parrows them- selves. Although they had a good house, we doubt whether, in view of their elegant gifts, it paid expenses. Avarus or Vine —During yesterday, there were three alarms of fire, which called out the various companies of the fire department. The two firat were caused by a little more smoke than ordinarily escapes from chimneys; the last was from the burning of a carpenters’ shop, near the Capitol, belonging to W. rhoniae The last was, doubtless, the work of an a A Buavrirun Girt.—We had the pevilegs this morning of examining two beautifal Shef- field silver-plated baskets, with handsome gold and silver medals attached, at the store of Messrs.
