VENING STAR. I SAW THEE WEDDED. BY REV. J. MOULTRIE. I saw thee wedded ; thon didst go Within the sacred aisle ; My young cheek in a blushing glow, Betwixt a tear and smile. My heart was glad in maiden glee ; But he loved it so fervently Was faithless all the while, I hate him for the vow he spoke— 1 hate him for the vow he broke. I hid the love that could not die, Its doubts, and hopes and fears; And buried all my misery, In secresy and tears And 's pas on—and thou didst prove The pangs of unrequitted love, Even in thy early vears; And thou didst die—so fair and good— In silence and in solitude. While thou wert living I did hide Affliction’s secret pains ; V'd not have shocked thy modest pride For all the world contains ; But thou hast perished ; and the fire, ‘That, often checked, could ne’er expire Again unbidden reigns ; Itis no crime to speak my vow, For ah ! thou canst not hear it now. Thou sleep’st beneath thy lowly stone That dark and dreamfess sleep; And be, thy loved and chosen one, Why goes he not to weep? He does not kneel where 1 f The anguish still and deep— ‘The painful thoughts of what has been— The canker worm that is not seen, - But I, as o’er the dark blue wave Unconscious!y I ride, My thoug! re ho ing o’er thy grave. My soul is by thy side. There is one voice thai wails thee yet— One heart that cannot e’er torget The visions that have died ; And aye thy form is buried there— A doubt—aun anguish—a despair ! ee Exrraorpinary Etopexent.—From the Memphis Whig of the 16ch instant, we gather the following particulars of a most extraordi- nary elopement. ‘The facts, as near as we can gather them, are these: On Friday last. Mr. Samuel 8. Rembert, one of the wealthiest and most respected planters in this county, living on Dig creek, about 12 miles from this city, went to the house of Dr. A. B. C. Dubose, one of his most intimate friends and a relation, we understand, and under a pretence of taking a young daughter of Dr. D.’s te a store tv make her a present, took her in his buggy, and the two rode off Mr. Rembert is a married man, and leavesa wife and seven children, the youngest about six weeks old, his wife being a daughter of Major Duncan, of Raleigh, a highly respecta- ble family. Ine young lady is only in her thirteenth year, the daugther of a wealthy and as respectable a family rz any in the State, and has a large circle of relations and friends throughout thecounty. That Mr. R. hadcon- templated this affair, and laid his plan before- hand, there canbe no doubt. He had been making preparations to go to Texas for some time. and had when he lett, it is said, some $10,000 or $12,000. The Whig of the i7th states that Mr. Rembert wes arrested at Hick- man, Ky., by means of the telegraph. Kise iv Pepper.—Tho ship Ariosto, of Bos- ton, said to have been bound from Sumatra for New York port, and lost on the west coast of Africa, had a cargo of pepper on board, esti- mated at about 7.500 bags. The news caused the holders of this article to advance their price in the New York market on Tuesday, to lic. per Ib., sales having been previously made as low as 10 a lise. re Time of Departure of the Ocean Steamers, Name Leaves For Days +» «New York...Liverpool. KIDWELL, Chemist, George- town, D.C. The estimate that is now accorded this prepars- tion by the medical profession and by others com- petent to judge of its merits, may be seen in the fact that it has been prescribed by many of our most eminent Physicians in this country, and has attract-d the attention of a celebrated profession of the Edinburg lege, Scotland, by whom it has been successfu'ly used in a career of an aggravated character. The proprietor has been forced to make more ex- tensive arrangements to meet the rapidly increasing demand for Brzcu Drop. Vincennes, InpianA, Oct. 3, 1854. J: L. Kidwell—Dear Sir: Some three months ago, through the agency of Col Smith Miller, our repre- sentatiov in Congres:, I had purchased of you, for the use of my father in Scotland, one dozen Bottles ot Beech Drcp or Uancer Preparation. I may add. my father has tried every physician of die- tim tland and England, including Profes- sors of W@taburg and Collleges, without relief. The isease was of three years standing, began in the right cheek, which is partially consumed. He was asvfferer with constant pain, wnich has entirely left him. : ‘This care will give your preparation a popularity in Britam which no other medicine has. Mr. Flint is a man of great influence in his county, and will with pleasure communicate with eny one in reference to his case. Cattawar County, Missouri, i July 13th, 1854, Dear Sir—With great pleasure I inform that your preparation of Beech Drop has accomplished for me what I thought beyond the reach of human agency. For the last twelve years I Lave been afflicted with Serofula of a Cancerous form. So extensive was the ulcers and so horrible my appearance that my case became notorious with sll the Faculty ia this and the adjoining counties—in fact I had obtained the best mei 1 aid in cur State, without any abate. ment of the disease. Through a friend I procured a half dozen bottles of your Beech Drap, after using it, so perfect was the cure, that hundreds ited me. My desire is to benefit my fellow man; with that purpese I beg all afflicted with Scrofula in any form to use it. Encios for the preparation. you will find an order from some friends Very truly, INO.
