Mills, Directress of the Ladies Unuon Benevolent and Employment Society, on the part of the institution, again appeals to a generous public to aid their disinterested efforts in the cause co: the poor destitute females suffering under the pressure of want. The association says: The rule laid down by this society in affording relief to these poor is founded on the principle of encouraging them in habits of in- dustry, and furmishing them with work suited to vir capacities and circumstances. In justice to ughters and mothers of want, they ever prefer “to earn their bread by the sweat of their brow” than t) receive it in charity. Here is manifested the true American spirit, self-respect and indepen- nee of feeling; and will not this spirit recommend tiese poor to a benevolent public? And will it not be made manifest by their affording that liberal sup- pert to the society whose members vo-untarily de- vote their time and means to carry out their benevo- Jent work?
