And why did the League of Struggle for Negro Rights choose | him as their editor? Big Ben, Jr. has become a na- tional figure by his militant defense of Angelo Herndon, young Negro organizer sentenced to twenty years on the chain gang for possessing Communist literature. Through his fearless exposure of lynch justice in Georgia in the boss class own lynch courts, he gained the respect of the workers of the South, and the work- ers of the world, interested in see- ing on of their class war prisoners freed. Through his systematic de- fense and the unusual courage of the defendant, Angelo Herndon, the case was turned from a prosecution of Herndon to an exposure of cap- italist justice. The delegates to this conference must keep in mind that the automobile workers are ready for action, provided that they are supplied with a leadership that has a program of struggle, and that is able to unite and to organize the masses for a program of the economic demands that the work- ers need and must achieve in order to maintain at least some living conditions. He urged the workers to have faith in their union officials and not to do anything rash to injure their union. He was met with cries of: “Abolish the Company Union,” and “We Want More Wages!” The president of the local union suggested that the men go back to their machines but refuse to work until the wages were adjusted, or until notified by the union officials. However, the workers decided to picket the plant, beginning ‘Thurs- day morning and to remain out on strike until the company union was abolished. The Spectre of Communism Is ‘Stalking Germany (Conptined rom: Puget) By HARRY GANNES growing upsurge against the fascist dictatorship. The London “Daily Herald,” organ of the British Labor Party, which supports British imperial- \ism’s plans in arming German fas- |cism, yesterday published a special interview with representatives of | the German ex-Kaiser in Doorn, “General Werner von Blomberg, |head of the Reichswehr,” says a London cable reporting this inter- view, “has given the Kaiser to un- derstand that a revolt of the Ger- |man working class is impending. “They may swing to Commu- nism. To avert that catastrophe the Reichswehr, under General von Biomberg, would proclaim a military dictatorship and declare martial law.” Another capitalist correspondent in Berlin, cabling for the Interna- tioal News Service says: “The ‘second revolution,’ if and when it comes, will be aimed at the capitalist classes, these who take the pessimistic view of the situation believe, These observers cite the increasingly turbulent activities of the Communists as an indication of the growing gravity of the situation.” ‘We do not have to rely on these sources to know that the stalwart, steeled, heroic leader of the Ger- man masses, the Communist Party, is growing by leaps and bounds, tre- mendously increasing its leadership in the fight against the bloody fas- cist dictatorship. Despite all the bragging cf the Nazis, and the lies of the Trotskfte, the Communist Party in Germany not only lives, but by reluctant admission of the cap- italists throughout the world, be- comes the greatest fighting menace to the further existence of fascism which has brought Germany to catastrophe. It is with this fact in view, that the capitalists in Germany and their capitalist supporters throughout the | world, prepare their new bloodier tactics against the German toiling masses. Yon Papen Makes Signal Speech Ven Papen’s speech was the opsn- jing sun. It was peddled to the world as a “critisism” of the Nazi | with Hitler, von Hindenburg, and Goering in an effort to save the Nazi executioners from the growing wrath of the broad masses of the German people. The leading section of German finance capitalism for whom thé Nazi butchers were ruling could very clearly see that the majority of the German people were begin- ning to hate and fight against their Nazi bloodhounds. They wished to open up a new alley of escape for themselves, and to do it they di- rected their fire against certain sec- tions of the Nazi leadership. But even this hoax is now being ex- ploded. Von Papen stages a tea party with the Minister of lying and poisonous propaganda, Goebbels, for the benefit of the foreign correspon- dents. The whole e is to deceive the German masses that there are degrees of difference in a fascist dictatorship, and that it is not nec- essary to overthrow the whole bloody business and destroy its capitalist roots in order to divest themselves of the grip of the Hitler blood- suckers. German Capitalism Bivkrant The economic situation is becom- ing desperate for German capital- ism, The masses are being plunged into the lowest depths of hunger. Financial bankruptcy can no longer be hidden, and inflation is a matter of a short period. The Nazi buteh- ers are already preparing this in- flation and do not want to loosen it on the working masses and the middle class without preparation. The printing works of the Reich Banks are working night and day turning out inflated currency, the “internal mark,” or the Binnen mark. The government, in prepara- tion for the impending famine, is already printing bread, poteto, cot- ton and other material cards to ra- tion the masses on a hunger diet. These facts are being spread among the German masses. The Com- munist Party is exposing the whole criminal swindle of the German fas- cist dictatorship to the toiling popu- lation, rallying them for the final struggle to overthrow capitalism and institute Soviet power, the dictator- ship of the preletaria The petty bourgeois masses, among whom fas! had its base, regime, but was in reality concocted in the face of inflation their hatred against the fascist dogs is growing. Furthermore, the bankrupty of the fascists who turned the state treas- ury over into the private till of the big finance capitalists, is intensifying the conflicts with other imperialist powers, particularly Britain, France and the United States. These coun- tries, in retaliation for failure to pay the German debts (debts which the Nazis have not repudiated but of which they are using the incomes for their own graft, for their war machine, for subsidies to the big capitalists) are taking measures which will intensify the sharp economic crisis in Germany. For Export The von Papen maneuver is also aimed for foreign export, to offer the foreign capitalists guarantees that the German masses can be squeezed still further by a new twist in the Fascist dictatorship to satisfy the creditors of Germany. The von Papen maneuvers, furthermore, are designed to try to win fast waning world public opinion for the fascist dictatorship with new trimmings, either under the guise of a monar- chy or a military dictatorship, which would unleash a wholesale slaughter of the German revolutionary masses, while placating the petty-bourgecisic with a modicum of worthless right to “criticise,” and the Jewish bour- geoisie, with a lessening of the anti- Semitic drive. This persepctive is also made clear by the “Daily Herald” inter- view with the military clique now conferring with the Kaiser who are in touch with other militarists con- nected with the Nazis in Germany “Plans of the army staff,” says the “Daily Herald,” are highly pre- partd. Hitler will be allowed to fly to Italy and Vice-Chancellor Franz yon Papen will rémain to reestablish friendly relations with the Vatican and Konstantin von Neurath will prepare Germany's return to League of Nations. “War Minister von Blomberg contemplates proclamation of a military dictatorship and martial law, with cessation of the anti- Jew campaign, after which new leaders will seek financial assist- anes from the United States.” The hatred of the masses azainst the Nasi dictate ip has penstrated are rapidly being disillusioned, and deep amonz the hundreds of thou- sands of storm troppers upon whom | the fascist dictatorship originally | relied to institute its bloody regime. | These petty bourgeos masses and proletarians are losing their illu- sions, and their fury is rising as they see how shamelessly they have been duped. It is against these forces, not against the Goebbels, the Roehms, that von Papen and Hitler's fire is directed. It is against the great popular rising wrath that the mili- tary dictatorship, with the support of international finance capital is being prepared, Struggles on the Horizon Germany is on the eve of the greatest revolutionary struggles. The Nazi dictatorship is on the brink of a catastrophe, but the bourgeoisie is girding itself for even greater mur- derous deeds than ver before under the guise of an attack against cer- tain of the Nazi “radical” elements. There is not th slightest doubt that the most desperate attempt will now be made against their common enemy, the Communist Party of Germany. Unless the whole work- ing class throughout the world is aroused to the greatest anti-fascist struggles, to be ready to act for the defense of the harassed German brothers, the German capitalists will attempt a holocaust which will put all the past depradations into the shade. We Must Save Thaelmann! In the present conditions the trial of Ernst Thaelmann, heroic leader of the Communist Party of Germany which will be set by the Nazi terror court when it meets on July 2nd, will be the signal for a murderous onslaught against the Communists. the proved, tried and steeled leaders of the anti-fascist front. We are More than ever must rouse and rally our forces to save Thaelmann. The campaign to free Thaelmann will become the gigantic rallying force in this country to come to the aid of our revolutionary brothers in Germany. The freeing of Thael- mann will be one of the deadliest blows we can deliver to the bloody fascist dictatorship in Germany. The fires of revolt are blazing high in Germany, We must stand near to plunge all our force be- hind cur German brothers and st our own exnleiters who will do everything to rescue cap- italiem in Germany, | ‘Free Thaelmann’ Game jand Demonstration at Crotona Pk.
