The informality of the af- fair paved the way for an easy and amusing presentation of the program for the evening which, for |the first time, was entirely im- premptu. None of the principals in the “show” knew that he was to be on the program until a few minutes before being called upon K. President Bill Ellis asked past the meeting with Grace and then announced that Capt. Don Mor- rison would be topicmaster; Ted Oberman, toastmaster for the eve- ning; and Linn Forrest, general eritic. Following a period of quiet, but hurried consultation, the speakers were selected and given a choice of two subjects concerning which each man had a few min- utes time to formulate a five-min- ute speech. Capt. Morrison, as topicmaster, chose as his subject for discussion ty members not on the program, “My New Year's Resolution.” Dr. Okerman then assumed the role of Toastmaster and called on the seclected speakers including Jim O'Brien who spoke on “Mink for my Angel;” Pete Warner, “The | cost of a hunting trip” (which in- cludes indeterminate factors such as poker losses); Dr. John Clem- ents who talked with the confi-| dence of an authqrity on, “The institution of marriage;” Bud El- kins on the subject, “That wonder- iul urge”; and Pete Nelson, who chose as his subject, #These prac- tical gifts.” As a bit of “between-the-acts fun, Toastmaster Oberman called on Jerry McKinley to speak as campaign manager for Ellis Rey- nolds Who is running for sheriff of Juneau County in the State of Alaska. The impromptu repartee between the “manager” and cand- idate Reynolds was highly amus- ing to the audience. Chief critic Forrest called on his tants Herb Rowland, Jerry E McKinley, Ellis Reynolds, Capt. Hawley, and Joe McLean to eval-; uate the preservation of the various cpeakers, and asked Al Ransome,! as grammarian, to comment on the “slips of the tongue.” John Brant- ' ner, as the Wizard of Ahs received 1 new piggy bank ah-meter pre- sented to Club by Dr. Oberman, and with evident relief handed it to Bud Elkins who won the right to! sit in the Wizard's chair at the next meeting. As a fitting postscript to a suc- cessful evening of fun, Toastmas- ter Oberman asked Capt. Hawley to repeat his previously given amusing talk on “Slipcovers” (which Mrs. Hawley had not yet ® 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 00 at the parsonage, 56 East Street. had the opportunity to hear). worzhip at Holy Trinity church in = — - Juneau this Suni = EYES EXAMINED LENSES PRESCRIBED DovGiAs BIBLE CHURCH | = DR.
