MONTGOMERY CLIFT ELIZABETH TAYLOR “A PLACE IN THE SUN” is the story of today . .. a drama of three young people uncontrollably lfafaniounl's in love—who risked everything to get that love! It is the story that mirrors all lovers—the story that belongs to everyone. It is rare that any motion picture has captured so magnificently the fire and fever of America’s youth. Even rarer, has any screen drama spoken so freely and frankly of the compelling needs and desires of young people, driven by instincts they can neither resist nor understand. Here is the story of a young man who was too ambitious, even in love, and of the two ! girls who cared for him too much! These three emotion-packed roles are portrayed by the most exciting young stars it has been possible to combine in cne film in many years. Here is a remarkably revealing Sl J0uk picture—one you’ll remember and love . . . completely. i SHELLEY WINTERS Ai:a‘adlemy' Award : Contender for 1951 DOORS OPEN 6:50 HOW STARTS 7:08—9:30 Tavail HYun 17501 2u0uq v s at FEATURE AT 7:25-9:47" ‘personnel in the Seattle Qfflces ad- |vised him that “we don’t know |how Alaska allocations are made or by whom.” ! “One official advised me,” Wood | | said, “that allocations could not be by veteran population alone because we know that the St. Louis district 1got over $30,000,000 of the first 1$120,000,000 released.” “The law calls for direct loan | funds to be made available in areas | where four percent loan money is unobtainable,” Wood said. “One; | would expect the funds to be allot- | |ted to Alaska first, not last, due to limited housing and territory- | wide eight percent interest.” Wood said that he has written identical registered letters to VA heads in Juneau, Seattle and Wash- ington, D. C. asking for an ac- counting of loan fund distribution. “In general, funds are allocated in the VA headquarters in Washing- ton, D. C. on the basis of two cri- teria,” said E. E. Lincoln, manager of the Juneau VA regional office. “The criteria are that funds are generally allocated to areas in which four percent money is not available to veterans from other sources for purchase of homes and within those areas according to vet- eran population,” he said. “During the past fiscal year it would appear that housing needs were also given consideration thus enabling Alaska to secure more funds than would normally be allocated by the two criteria alone,” he said. “Total funds allocated to Al- aska as of Sept. 10, 1951 amount to $3,543000 for direct loans to veterans for homes,” Lincoln con- cluded. The American Legion and Veter- ans of Foreign Wars are both work~ ing in Washington, D. C., on hous- ing in Alaska for veterans and on this phase of the housing problem, as is Deelgate E. L. Bartlett, accord- ing to Bob Druxman, Alaska de- partment adjutant of the American Legion. COMMISSIONER OF EDUCATION LEAVES FOR SEATTLE MEETING Everett R.
