WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24, | 3 Charged on A Embezzling Funds by FBI PITTSBURGH, Oct. 24—(® »Thr FBI arrested three officials of a big department, store credit union to-, day and charged them with embezz- ling $338,901.10. | Special agent Fred Hallford, in i charge of the Pittsburgh FBI of- | fice, said those arrested were Jo- seph B. Campbell, 56, vice pres dent of the Kaufmann Store E ployees’ Federal Credit U Jobm J. Cain treasurer; Mrs. Nana 31, asvistant treasurer and office mandger. The case is the 11th major em- kezzlement broken in about a year by the FBI office in Pittsburgh in an area embracing western Pennsyl- vania and West Virginia. The other embezzlement charges all involve bankers or bank employees. A total of $3,562,000 in shortages is involved. Twelve persons have been arrested in the 11 cases. A 1 person, a banker, committed suicide. Hallford quoted Cain as saying he used the embezzled money to “finance lost week-ends” during the latter part of 1944 to early 1948. Campbell also admitted, Hallford declared, embezzling funds for good times. Mrs. Nicoll, now on sick leave, told Hallford her completion of mere business actions for Cain.
