Se]tale (ommittee Approves Military Building for Alaska WASHINGTON, Sept. 1—#—The Senate Armed Services committee today -approved a vast military con- struction program to cost more than $5800,036;808 ¥t BT of Alaska projects. | Senator Russell (D-Ga), chair-} man, told a reporter a major share of a $95,000,000 increase over the amount authorized previously by the House resulted from granting the Army an additional $50,000,000 Inri depot and storage facilities in con-i tinental United States. Another $23,400,000 was voted to| the Air Force for a troop carricr| wing base to be set up at Seymour Johnson Air Force base at Golds- berg, N.C. The committee also added more then $22,000,000 for the Marine] Corps, but made no addition to the Navy authorization. The bill includes an Alaska mili- tary building program totaling more than $335,000,000. It includes big outlays for the air bases in the Anchorage and Fairbanks areas, im- provements in the Kodiak Naval Station and work on Aleutian bases. The bill, however, is only an authorization. Actual money would have to be provided later.
