WHERE DO THEY 60! | There must be a coin collector |behind every bush judging by the rapid disappearance of silver dol- lars from circulation in Juneau, bank officials here are thinking. Due to the high cost of shipping |in silver the First National Bank |here recently experimented with | using dollar bills but 50 per cent of the customers screamed for silver so resumption of 50 per cent silver and 50 per cent paper dollars is currently being tried. Local collectors as well as tour- ists carefully examine silver dollars given in Shange seeking rare coins. The prize is an 1870 dollar minted at San Francisco, which is so rare it is not even mentioned in the U.S. Treasurer’s report. In an uncircul- ated condition it is worth $1,650. | The 1921 Liberty head Denver- minted dollar is popular in Juneau. Collectors also dream of picking up 1873 and 1893 dollars minted in San Francisco and a 1903 one minted in New Orleans. The 1903 dollars min~ {ted in New Orleans are also rare because in 1918 they were called in and melted down for silver bullion to send to India and to make small domestic coins. At the B. M. Behrends Bank {there are sufficient silver dollars to satisfy present demands. TEACHERS TAKING 'DELUXE’ CRUISE LITTLE DIOMEDE NOME, Alaska, June 20 —(P— Looking for vacation ideas?
