A A SATURDAY, DECEMBER 23, 1950 SCHOOL CHRISTMAS CONCERT DELIGHTS JUNEAU AUDIENCE, Music lovers who have iived in Juneau many years were of tne undivided opinion that the finest chorus singing yet heard in’this city was that presented by the High School Chorus at the annual Public Schools Christmas Concert last evening in the High School gymnasium. The High School Band so delight- ed the audience that two encores were demanded before it was satis- fied to permit the bandsmen to re- tire. Particularly appreciated was the playing by the band of “White Christmas.” Not on the program, it was an enthusiastically received | surprise. Comments of praise were heard throughout the audience at the close of the concert for the excel- | fent work of directing by Miss Marjorie Iverson, vocal music in- structor and Lyle Manson, band director. Both are new to the Ju-| neau schools this year and both have done a remarkable work in the music department of the schools in’ the short period since September. It would be difficult to name the most outstanding number sung by the members of the chorus to agree with the decisions of the majority who heard the singing, all numbers were so well done, The final num- Ler “Twas the Night Before Christ- mas” by the mixed chorus probably was the most appealing for its theme as well as the excellence of its performance. Other outstand- ing numbers were’ “Today Is a Ringing” by the Mixed Chor- us, “The Birthday of a King” Girls’ Sextette; “Willie, Take Your Drum,” Boys’ Quartette; Christmas Bells,” Mixed Small Grou; Girls’ Glee Club; Herald Angels Sing,” Club. “Hark! The Boys’ Members of the band were par-| ticularly good in the march num- bers, and held the audience with their playing of the hymn “Fairest Lord Jesus,” and of course the “White Christmas” number.
