SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1950 ot 3 7 A % D E— e A G S S it OAKLAND WINNER OF PCL PENNANT (By the Associated Press) The Oakland Acorns nailed up their fourth Pacific Coast League pennant in 47 years last night by the simple expedient of winning the second game of a doubleheader at Sacramento. Not. that anybody doubted the inevitable outcome, but now it’s official. With three games left to play, the Oaks are five games atop second place San Diego. Portland sewed up fourth place and still has a remote chance of overtaking the third place Hollywood Stars. For all practica purposes, though, the marathon campaign is over. It really end Sunday. Oakland captured its last pennan in 1948. The Oaks also won the champion ship in 1912 and in 1927. They cinched it last night by lac- ing last place Sacramento, 7-3, i the second game after losing the opener, 4-1. Portland gained a berth in the first division on Red Adams’ 2-( shutout over San Francisco. Exhib- iting flawless control; the cool right- hander held the Seals to three hits two of them coming during a tigh ninth inning. San Diego split with Hollywood and Seattle also divided with Los Angeles in the other games. The Padres took the opener, 7-2, but Hollywood won the finale, 6 to 4. At Los Angeles, the Angels won the | first game, 2-1, but dropped the; afterpiece, 7-6.
