CHAMBER TOLD HOW TO ATTRACT HIWAY DRIVERS T0 JUNEAU At a regular Chamber of Com- merce luncheon meeting today, Joe McLean proposed that more infor- mation be disseminated at Alaska Highway points to let tourists know that it is possible to come to Juneau via the Haines ferry. He pointed out that of 40 cars midway on the Alaskan highway, 20 are local trucks and cars, ten are headed for a fixed destination such as Fairbanks or Anchorage and ten are tourists. Of the ten tourists, McLean said, several would be look- ing for another way to get out of Alaska without driving back over the dusty gravel roads. He stated that Juneau could get more tourist dollars by putting out the information that tourists could ship their cars out while seeinz the Inside Passage to Prince Rupert Vancouver or Seattle. The matter was referred to the tourist commit- tee to work out a program. Alva Blackerby reported the pas- sage of the Dingell bill in Congress determine how many, girls there will se, and their ages, also to decide »n regular meeting “dates.
