C., Sept. 13— —The “Celtic,” a 70-foot United States ship, ran aground at full Landings today for the Engstrom speed on a beach one and one-half | miles from Klewnugget lighthouse in Grenville Channel, the Royal today. Klewnugget lighthouse is 75 miles southwest of Prince Ru- pert. The ship, of undetermined design, ] carried a crew of seven, None were injured. The “Celtic” was sitting hig and dry on the beach waiting for high tide to attempt refloating. Another boat, known only as the “Matilda,” was standing by to aid in the refloating attempt, Canadian Air Force reported hero! Records were found in Seattle on two ships named “Celtic.” The Fidalgo Island Packing Com- pany thought the ship might be a company craft inbound from Ket- chikan, Alaska, This Celtic nor- mally carried a crew of five. It is & 70-foot craft. The other is a 62-foot fishing vessel owned by Ola Hendricks of Ketchikan, with Tacoma as her home port. Tug Foss at Scene The tug Mathilda Foss is stand- ing by the cannery tender Celtic in Grenville Channel today it was reported by Coast Guard head- quarters here. The tender belong- ing to the Fidalgo Packing Co. of Ketchikan ran aground at full speéd approximately a mile and a half south of Klewnugget Light m| Grenville Channel below Prince Ru. pert. at 3:19 this morning. There were six men and one woman ab- oard. An hour later the tug an- l';fled its signals, and is standing by until ‘this afternoon when an attempt will be made to refloat the fénder. It is now high and dry with no indication of damage.
