Fnepd(” POEMS BY MRS. DAWES WILL BE PUBLISHED BEFORE. CHRISTMAS Publication of a' book’ by ‘a Jl- neau writer is top news in our town. 1 And when the author js Mrs. L. P. Dawes, a resident of many years, that makes the story even more important. Mrs. Dawes, who had studied voice and was a cOncert singer when she first came to”Juneau 36 years ago, embraced Versifathtion &s a medium of expression” when she quit singing. Until recently she had never put her poems on paper, although she would recite them for “er friends. It was through her friendship with Mrs. Bernice Morgan, a fellow member of the Creative Writers' Club, that Mrs. Dawes’ book reached the manuscript state. After much persuasion she per- mitted Mrs. Morgan to write the poems at her dictation and Mrs. Morgan has assembled them into a book that has been accepted by the Exposition Press, New York publishing firm. Title of the book will be “Poems of Inspiration” by Lenore Dawes. The Exposition Press editors are enthusiastic over her poems and a contract to publish has been signed. “Poems Qf Inspiration will be off the press in Mlhc for Christ- mas sale. Among the poems in the book will be some that:are well knows logally There will be “The Dere- lict,” .about the rotting’ hulk of a boat on the beach of- Gastineau Channel and “The Chiropractor,” a humorous treatment of the end- less battle between the “MD's” and chiropractors—Mrs. Dawes’ husband, Dr. L. P. Dawes, has recéntly re- tired but her poem was written when her husband was a practicing medical doctor. Mrs. Dawes has been active in the Creative Writers group and, like many others has been encour- aged and inspired by this associa- tion, she says. Mrs. Trevor Davis, présent Pres- ident of the organization, and Mrs. Morgan, Vice President, also have books in the making, Mrs. Morgan's book, winner recent competition, will be out shortly after the first of the year and Mrs, Davis’ book of poems will be published in the spring. {17 PASSENGERS ARE FLOWN MONDAY, 10, in a Pacific Northern Airlines carried 17 passengers in and out of Juneau e ef AIR EXPRESS!
