Clark of Juneau have received word from g iSentt,le that their daughter, Mrs. 1008 | william F. Ferraro, gave birth to /a seven pound 12 ounce boy this morning. The Ferraro's new son, who has been named after his father, is their second child. Their first, Vicki Lee, 3, was born in Juneau. Mr. and Mrs. Ferraro moved to Seattle more than a Yyear ago; Ferraro is in the insurance busi- ness. He was formerly with the meat department of the 20th Cen- tury Super Market here. Clark was one of the operators of the Harri Machine Shop, which was gutted in an early morning blaze yesterday. CAA MAN Harold L. All programs subject to change iue to conditions beyond our con- NEARLY 4 MILLION WANTED RETAINED ALASKA ARMY WORK WASHINGTON, May 19— — The Army has asked the House Appropriations Committee to ex- tend for one year the availability of $3,750,000 provided for use in Alaska during the year ending June 30. The money is part of $32,700,000 appropriated a year ago for con- struction work in Alaska, Okinawa and Guam. Testimony of Army officers be- fore a closed subcommittee session considering a deficiency appropria- tion bill was made public today. Unless Congress extends the $3,750,000 appropriation for one year the money will return to the Treasury when the fiscal year ex- pires June 30. The Army spokesmen testified, the money is needed for construc- tion in Alaska which cannot be complete this fiscal year. They said $3,000,000 of the amount would be used for completion of the pow- er and heating plant at Ladd Afr Force Base, $225,000 for completion of outside utilities at that base and $525,000 for completion of utiftiy systems at several air fields and Army posts. REQUEST GRANTED WASHINGTON, May 19—(#—The House Appropriations Committee approved today a request by Army Engineers to extend for another year the availability of $83,750,000 appropriated last year for use in Alaska. . i KETCHIKAN SHARES | NEW HOUSING LOAN WASHINGTON, May 19— (B — President Truman has appraved loans totaling $942,100 to enable public housing authorities in 36 communities to plan construction of 2,439 rental dwellings for low- income families. John Taylor Egan, commissioner of the Public Housing Administra- tion, announced the grants. He said the funds -will permit local groups to complete surveys and planning work which must precede construction work on the units which will be built under the 1949 nation-wide long-range low rent housing program. The preliminary loans approved by the President will go to housing authorities in 13 states and Alaska and will be used to start $20,731,500 worth of projects.
