Sitka A.N.B. 70, Juneau Colum- bians 66 (overtime) Three games of “fast ' furio basketball were viewed by spemumn' Aase - in the Juneau High School gymna- sium last night, in the annual Gold Medal Tournamenf. In the first game, Mike's Nite Owls from Doug- las outgunned the Kake A. N. B. squad, 60 to 40. High point man for the Islanders was Merritt with 18; for Kake, Austin with 10. The mammoth Sitka Columbians couldn’t get rolling until the *hird quarter but when they did, a Wran- gell Thunderbird lead of 6 points was turned into a 61 to 52 Lumber men victory. Scoring high for the Sitkans was Stan Westover. with 12 points while Gross of W turned in 22 for the los Sitka ANB's fast riding horde cked out a vict over the Juneau Co- lumbians in the first overtime game of the season. The lead changed in- numerable times during the first half which ended in a 34-34 dead- lock. At the end of the third period Juneau was sitting high in the sad- dle with a 5 point lead; however in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, Didrikson, Leask and Lang each sank a pair of buckets to throw ANB. into the lead. Powers, for the Lumbermen, collected and Hogins four, to return the edge to the locals. Herbie Didrikson drop- ped in another FG and a charity toss for the AN.B. and Johnson netted a one-hander from the far court. For Juneau, Adams potted a push-shot from the field and “Wild Bill” Graves registered with a FT to tie the game. End of the f h quarter: Columbians 59, Sitka A. N. B. 59. Going into the five minute over- time period, Sitka scored first, with Truitt dropping in a cripple. Hogins made a pair of gift tosses on a foul from Perkins. Leask tipped one in and made a free throw and again, it looked like Sitka’s ball game. Then the picture changed as Adams came through with a jump-shot and Powers made a free throw on a foul from Williams, who, seconds later put the game on ice for the A.N.B. with & lay-up and a duo of FT’s. Juneau quintet moved the ball down the floor, only to have it stolen by Leask who rifled it downcourt to Williams who netted the clinche as the hern sounded. Sitka A.N.B. 70, Juneau Columbians 66.
