HERMANN Soroptomists at their regular meeting on the Baranof Terrace Friday heard Mrs. Mildred Her- mann’s report of her attendance ot the American Cancer Society in New York last fall, heard her story | lof the New York Herald Tribune | { forum, of her visits to the United Nations meeting, hearing Eleanor Roosevelt speak and having tea at the home of Mrs. Kermit Roose- velt. Though her previous meetings had been reported, Mrs. Hermann added two incidents of narrow escape from death that she ex- perienced. First, when she failed to take the airplane on which she had reservations from New York to Washington, and the plane crashed with all aboard killed and next when, instead of calling at the Post Office in Washington as she had intended, she called on Dele- | gate Bartlett first, then found that | the Post Office was surrounded by | fire fighting equipment, that there had been an explosion in the room in the Post Office Building in which | she had business. Admiring her will power, her soroptimist sisters, however, were protably more impressed by the fact that she had lost forty pounds before her return to Alaska. That was a major accomplishment that |any dieting woman could appre- | ciate.
