PAGE SIX Newsy Note From Skagway (Special Correspondence) SKAGWAY, Alaska, July 20—A special meeting of the Common Council was called Wednesday eve- ning, July 6, by Acting Mayor F. D. Calkins. Ray Peterman reported that the water tank at the aban- doned sanitarium was a first class redwood tank and would be easy to take down to be used as the city water tank. C. J. Roehr gave a resume of the work done on the swimming pool and reported that the cost to date was $1347.25. He DEDICATED TO SERVICE RANGER WHIPCORD CASLERS MENS WEAR said that the pool should be a city with a petition signed by the tax- payers asking that the city take over and manage the pool. Coun- cilman Feero reported that Samuel Nelson had been hired s city po- liceman for two months. The city declined to handle the swimming pool and turned it hack to the swimming pool committee. C. The Swimming Pool Committee held an informal meeting with sev- eral of the heads of the various organizations of Skagway, drew up a set of rules to govern the man- agement of the pool, and declared it open to the people of Skagway at hours when reliable lifeguards could be in charge.
