| TUESDAY, AUGUST 2, 1949 CEMETERY WORK - LAST NIGHT BY AMERICANLEGION, Ten members of Juneau Post No.; 4 of the American Legion turned out last night to improve the ap- pearance of the ‘American Legion plot at the Evergreen Cemetery. At the same time, Past Post Commander Max Lewis was ‘wel- comed home for a short visit and .wa$ immediately put to work on the business end of ‘a shovel. Legionnaire Ted Smith's dump truck was used to help uproot rotted stone posts and haul them away for dumping. All of last night’s time was used in removing the posts. In future sessions, the Legion will rake and plant grass in an addi- tional 25-foot wide strip at the rear of the present plot. Next weék however, a regular business meet- ing will be held at the Dugout. MRS. PHILLIFS RETURNS FROM SEATTLE VACATION Mrs. A. B. At the Juneau iarine Base of the Northern Commercial Co., a new Caterpillar diesel engine was installed on the Harder owned by James Thomas of Kake. The Jan- nette owned by Merle Rhodes was on the ways for copper paint and replacement of hull planks. Up for copper paint were the Glacier Bay owned by Lewis Jacobsen of Pelican, the Explorer owned by Magnus Hanson, and the Queen, owned by Erling Onsoien. The Katie owned by Lloyd Da- vis of Kake was in for shop work. The fresh water cooling system was replaced on the Carolina owned by Carl Graves.
